Help! ET doesn't run on my mac.

(nightmare999) #1

I try to play, and when it starts up, it says this: Couldn’t load default.cfg - I am missing essential files - verify your installation?

Then, I click ok, and it quits. Also, in the terminal looking box behind that notice, it says this:
ET 2.60b MacOS-PPC May 8 2006
----- FS_Startp -----
Current search path:
/Users/alexis/Library/Application Support/Wolfenstein ET/etmain
/Applications/Enemy Territory 2.60b/macosx/etmain

0 files in pk3 files
----- CL_Shutdown -----

Sys_ShutdownNetworking();

I really want to play this game.
Someone help?

(Nail) #2

looks like you just installed an update, not the game itself

(nightmare999) #3

Ok, i installed the full game, updated to 2.60b, and now, when i try to run it, it hangs without doing anything or opening anything. After five minutes, it closes and my mac says that Wolfenstein ET quit unexpectedly. Does it have to do with my system specs?

(stealth6) #4

first off mac has no 2.60b it works with c and d.

secondly on the newer versions of leopard ET doesn’t run anymore, when I try it the sounds hangs and it just freezes, then I need to force it to quit.

if you find a solution please share

Uh uh pick me PICK ME !!
shakes hand in the air

I had the same problem with my MacBook : ET freezes and then buzzzzzzzing sound and then: puf
So after a loooong search I got it to work with this simple cfg file:

http://sites.google.com/site/stefanpiot/autoexec.cfg?attredirects=0

Taken from my little site:

A lot of Mac users have a problem with their ET not running correctly (not to say not at all). When they run ET they’ll hear a buzzing sound and ET shuts off. This Autoexec file can help you solve that problem. Download it and save it into your ET main, run ET and normally it will work. (This is used for Apple MacBook)

(source: http://sites.google.com/site/stefanpiot/prefabs)

I surely hope it will help you too !
It’s actually very stupid (one line), but it helps me, so :stroggtapir:

EDIT: the file name MUST be autoexec , so don’t go edit the name or something

Ok, GREAT. Thanks, now it works, and I am playing already. You are so helpful!!!:D:stroggbanana:

(shagileo) #7

Glad to hear it’s working !
(Stealth, did it work for you as well? )

(stealth6) #8

lol it works
cool, now how do you ope the console lol

EDIT: found it lol the button just moved

lol funny thing is though that it’s been so long since I last tried that I don’t recall why I wanted it on my laptop

(shagileo) #9

ET is a must on every laptop
Cool to hear it’s working. Such a little line, so many problems

(Kudos) #10

Hmm, I’ve added the autoexec.cfg file in my folder “etmain” but this doesn’t solve the problem. My ET crashes at the moment I’m connecting to a server. I select my server, it downloads the extra files and then - upon the final stage of connecting - it crashes.

Anyone know what the problem can be? I’ve downloaded the game + patch today. Both punkbuster and ET are installed.

(ThatNewGuy) #11

Hey guys, that doesnt work for me! But when i try to start my et that black box shows up with the green letters and when its allmost done, yellow letters show up and i was able to read that it was a warning about something about my E.T. account. Could there be a way to reset my E.T.? So everything is put to normal again? (like graphic and stuff?) because first my et was working but it crashed when i changed graphics.
IF THERE IS AWAY TO RESET ET PLEASEEEE TELL!

(shagileo) #12

If you still can access the main menu of ET, try creating a new account - with the default settings

Otherwise a reinstall could be a solution
(maybe there are other solutions as well, prior to reinstall, but those are my thoughts atm)

Can you post the specific error you get?

EDIT: just read you can’t access the main menu.
Hmm, all right, you say the exec file which is posted above didn’t work?
Remove it then, maybe it conflicts with the program

Which Mac are you running?
(because not all macs need to run the autoexec file)

Could be because the server you’re attempting to join doesn’t support the ET mac version.
(for instance a 2.55 server)

Another matter that can shut down your mac ET is a mod that isn’t supported for Mac, like TJMod.
You can connect to the server, download the files and when you’re all ready and set, ET shuts down.

If that’s the issue, contact the mod creator and ask if he made mac bundles for his mod as well - if not, there you have it

I do have the same problem as the one who had: Couldn’t load default.cfg - I am missing essential files - verify your installation? I played ET once before dinner, had dinner, i wanted to launch it again, and then it gave that problem. I tried to put autoexec.cfg in my etmain but thats not possible, there’s a little cross below the mousepointer when i drag it to the etmain map, can u help me out?

(Hayno) #15

What’s the right way to change the folder you want files to appear after you downloaded them?

(shagileo) #16

Hi there !

Maybe let’s start of with the easiest question and solution: download location for your files.
Personally I’m using FireFox, but any browser will do.

If you’re using FireFox as well, go to the ‘Firefox’ tab => preferences
Then this window should pop up:

Perfect opportunity to spice up your dutch
You see in this image the section ‘Downloads’, there you see a radio button marked : Files save to (in my case) Desktop

That’s it for your desired download location. I prefer Desktop, but by default it should be in your Downloads folder in your user folder (not an obligation, though - but I think that’s the default location)

Now about your drag and drop issues.
This is strange indeed, as I haven’t seen that one before (well I’ve seen the red cross before, but not for this type)

Try creating a new Wolfenstein ET folder in your application folder (give your first wolf version another name, let’s say: Wolf 1) - try again, dropping the autoexec cfg in your etmain
T’ is not a guarantee but you never know, it’s worth the try

Be sure to drop a note when it worked or not, good luck

Hi there, I used to be a huge ET fan years ago when i used to play it on my PC. I now have a macbook pro with Mavericks and i just thought id have a go on it again but having some problems so here goes:

I downloaded and installed version 2.60d from the official website.

Moved the folder etmain and all its contents to to /Application Support/Wolfenstein ET/

Moved the Wolfenstein ET to Applications

Downloaded autoexec.cfg from the guy above

Installed Punkbuster

Now i have tried also to move the Wolfenstein ET app to /Application Support/Wolfenstein ET/ also as when i try to load the app from application i get an error saying couldn’t load default.cfg , files missing? or something

When I load it from the applications support folder it still crashes and i get this error:

Please someone help i love this game and i need it back in my life!!

(Nail) #18

I believe you’ll have to use etlegacy,

http://etlegacy.com/download

(Dragonji) #19

ET 2.60b/d does not work on Mavericks. Use ET:L instead as Nail suggests.

(Mateos) #20

I’m starting to believe that a sticky with a very explicit title would help on that point… What do you people think?
