Help connecting to RCON

(Apophus) #1

I am reaching out for a bit of help. I’ve never had a game server prior to Brink so I have no experience with using the administrative commands.

Our host is Branzone, which has TCAdmin(but for some reason RCON won’t work from their web portal). I am attempting to us console commands while in-game connected to my server. I succesfully bring up the console and when I try to us “Rcon login <insertmypassword>” I am just told the password is incorrect.

I’ve configured the net_serverRemoteConsolePassword “insertmypassword”
line in my config file. I know I"m typing the password correctly but I can’t figure out how to connect. Am I missing something easy here or do I need to get on the horn with Branzone?

try using “rconpassword <yourpassword>” instead. Not done rcon since L4D, but worth a shot. So let me know if it works :stuck_out_tongue:

(Kairus) #3

Type in:

net_clientRemoteConsoleAddress IP:PORT

net_clientRemoteConsolePassword PASSWORDHERE

Then just rcon COMMAND

Like, rcon admin kick 0: PLAYERNAME

There might be another way to do it (simpler one?) but this worked so I stopped searching.

(Deadwalking) #4

According to the PDF the way that Kairus wrote is how it works, but I tried to spend more time playing than configuring last night so I dint even get around to figuring out how to open the console.

Anyone want to give a guy a heads up on opening the console in game?

This indeed works. I wish I didn’t have to type in these two long strings every time I connected however.

You can add this string to the launch options of Brink inside the steam library.

+com_allowconsole 1 then just hit the ~ key once connected to a game.

I’ve also been able to use CTRL-SHIFT-~

You could create an autoexec.cfg that includes those lines, that way you don’t have to open the console and type them in every time.

It could look like this:

seta com_allowConsole "1" //this way you can open the console by pressing the ~ key only
seta net_clientRemoteConsoleAddress IP:PORT
seta net_clientRemoteConsolePassword PASSWORDHERE

Hope this helps

stupid question but is net_clientremoteconsoleadress the servers ip?

(Deadwalking) #9

Should be from my understanding havnt used the console yet been doing it all from remote desktop till I get it tweaked the way I would like.

(Rosie the Riveter) #10

Don’t feel foolish, I had the exact same question  and thanks for the answer

(indirect) #11

If you’re on the server you only need to type
net_clientRemoteConsolePassword PASSWORDHERE

The first one is for if you’re not on the server

(JMWTech) #12

I have the same problem as OP.

Here is the config I’ve uploaded and the restarted the server:

si_name "Gompers Revolution"
net_serverRemoteConsolePassword "mypassword"
net_serverAllowHijacking 0
si_needpass "1"
g_password "serverpassword"
si_onlinemode 3
si_rules "sdGameRulesObjective"
g_mapRotationVote "mp/ccity,mp/sectow,mp/refuel" // allow players to vote for ccity, sectow and refuel
g_mapRotationFixed "mp/ccity,mp/refuel,mp/aquarium,mp/reactor,mp/resort,mp/sectow,mp/shipyard,mp/terminal" // map rotation: mp/ccity -> mp/refuel -> mp/sectow -> mp/ccity
spawnServer "mp/ccity"

I enter
net_clientremoteconsolepassword mypassword
and it takes it. I then try an admin command like admin restart map and it responds with
Server: you don’t have permission to restart the map.

Any help is appreciated.

It’s been a while since I admined for ETQW. Is there currently a way to get a player list and kick players when you’re not on the server? Essentially I just want to make space with as few slots so I can get on.
I assume it’s too early for rcon commander to be out.

Would be nice to use a 18 slot server 16 pub 2 reserved…as far as rcon commands and admin im still clueless why its not working

(impulse) #15

I have a theory on the rcon and admin commands; however, I am unable to test it until i get home.

Can someone test
>rcon admin kick

I think what might be happening is that when you type
>admin kick
YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION!

what is happening is that admin kick is trying to do it as the local server. Now if you were hosting a game from your box, it SHOULD work, but since we are connected to the server and are trying to issue commands based on rcon permissions, we probably have to put rcon in front of everything.

Since you’re not connected to the server at this point you’ll have to set the cvar net_clientRemoteConsoleAddress as well before doing these commands.

To list connected players do:

rcon serverInfo

then kick a player with:

rcon admin kick <index>

(JMWTech) #17

I can confirm that the rcon before commands works.

Thanks AO.
We need a server admin WIKI. Maybe this weekend I’ll start a page. Don’t know.

I found that one : http://brink.wikia.com/wiki/Brink_Wiki

Apophus, I also have branzone and they do not have a remote rcon control up yet. The only thing we can do at this point is through console while connected.
