Have you ever had your hype killed?

(TheStrangerous) #1

This isn’t “I was hyped for this movie/game/book/whatever, but it turned out disappointing!” thing.
What I mean, is some huge BS happened before the launch, causing your hype thrusters go off.

Here’s mine:

Rockstar never learns, after all this support from PC users, they turn their back once again. Sad, considering Western is my favorite genre… :’(

hype?
you mean

Ubisoft games?
yea man.

but R6 Siege is pretty good

My hype for the nintendo switch was broken by the 300 dollar price

(GatoCommodore) #4

i thought thats pretty cheap

ps4 and xbox one was like 600 at launch

(Boory Marks) #5

@GatoCommodore If only I had that kind of money

(GatoCommodore) #6

naw i got it from a soccermom sold his son PS4 for fiddy bucks ($50)
i also got a GTAV with it

(Boory Marks) #7

@GatoCommodore I’d love to get the switch at some point, which will be when it goes on sale. I’d never recommend to anyone to buy a console at launch

I remember that music video.
How ironic, consoles still ain’t worth buying, considering the lack of really interesting 1st party games. Plus we getting those weird “mid generation consoles” like PS4 Pro and Xbox One S. And so many pay walls, locking crucial features, like playing online.

(GatoCommodore) #9

Buy old laptop for work
So potato but it plays DB pretty smooth
tries R6 Siege on starter pack (cheap mode $15)
also smooth
no need to pay again to play online
mfw

I’ve been in the Sonic fanbase once. I started to learn what it was like for about 3 years…

Since Sonic Boom I never turned back.

If someone wants to clown around and ruin my use of money, I’m not going to come back to them unless if it’s to take over their business.

for me all of my hype getting killed came from valve updates on tf2

-tough break: horrible balance changes which made many weapons useless (rip claidah’mor and axtinguisher) and just added contracts you had to pay for which were just a copy paste from the gun mettle update

1 year later of nothing happening, not even a buff on those weapons killed in the last update:

-meet your match: they added a competetive mode you had to pay for it and it doesn’t even have a matchmaking system, it just puts peoples randomly into a game (and even by using no matching parameters it takes ages)
also they replaced the pubs with the casual mess which takes ages to put peoples randomly into a server and it contributed nothing towards achieving balanced games (if you are going to create a system which puts a group of people into a server at random without using any search parameters, then make it so it doesn’t take ages to do it)

and next we will have the pyro update which i fully expect to be as disappointing

and we still havent seen War or Mayan
im pretty fed up by how valve took DoTA2 and CSGO as their golden child and just abandon TF2.

(TheStrangerous) #13

Aaahh TF2, this game is history to me. I could never get into it anymore, even after trying so many times. DB has spoiled me, regarding online games.

This reminds me something: KICKSTARTER GAMES

Oooh boy, due to recent dissapointment bred by Kickstarter, I ain’t hyped for Yooka-Layle…
I wanna believe it’ll turn out good, but unfortunately, at the back of my mind, I have a phobia this’ll be another Mighty 9. Gonna stay cautious…

(CyberVonCyberus) #14

@GatoCommodore to be honest valve isn’t a game developing company anymore with the Vr technology starting to become playable (to be honest except for a couple select games, i haven’t seen much Vr games which would make me use Vr instead of my laptop or most importantly pay 800$ for an unfinished product)
add to that Valve isn’t even the one updating CSGO, so the Vive is actually their true golden child

so with the money gained from their trading communities and from games being sold on steam+developing their own Vr set to sell Vr games on steam
we should not expect any sort of game from valve (Rip half life 3 and source 2 engine, you will never be reality only a distant dream pursued by fools refusing to accept the cold and harsh embrace of reality), well this went dark really fast…

The latest hype killing moment i’ve had was when i got my hands on DayZ standalone.
It was a bloody mess, broken mechanics (invisble zombies, for example) to developpers leaving the dev team one by one.

The biggest one would be APB,tied with CS:GO. I even made lovely reviews about why these games were overhyped pieces of garbage to my eyes. [(CS:GO) url=http://steamcommunity.com/id/ThatPumpkinDick/recommended/113400/](http://steamcommunity.com/id/ThatPumpkinDick/recommended/730/)

You’d be amazed of what you can read in Steam reviews in both games: i didn’t say everything because of how broken the reviewing system is. :b

i remember getting hyped for battlefield 3 and assassins creed 3. mind you this was back before i could buy stuff cuz i didnt have a credit card. for some reason the day they released i just stopped watching trailers like two or three times every week. i didnt even look up reviews, i just suddenly felt a little…sick? down? i didnt have good feelings when i thought about them.

played battlefield 1 beta. thought it was a chaotic mess. more like COD with bigger maps, vehicles and some support abilities.
played assassins creed 3. game is good outside of occasionally clunky parkour system and a protagonist so boring he didnt even have emotion in his voice. boats were awesome and led me to get black flag

if you want a parkour game, play Dying Light.
8/10 game for me since it hits all the right spot.
(running-climbing mechanic is pretty solid)

running around on an errand at night never been so tense.

i thought BF3 and 4 are pretty good? i mean i bought BF4 after been fully patched and it was nothing like the initial broken launch. (also, Still being supported so might as well buy it)
