Nice forum vbulletin, but the license is expensive

yeah it is…

xenForo is where it’s at. I bought a vB4 key not long ago but an evil corporation bought the company and turned the latest version into doodoo. Most of the vBulletin developers quit and made a new forum software called xF. Of course it costs monies too.

Here is an example of it on another Brink Forum I follow: http://www.brinksource.com/forum/

vbulletin forum is miles away from IPB or phpBB forums, or other forums. this one is without any ads at all, and on other forum i had to buy no ads package…

also, customizations are almost unlimited, its same forum as this on splashdamage .

use all this options and much, much more! and this is not from forum! in forum you need to discover by yourself, because its that much…

lol sorry for my engrish:)

What I hate most about phpBB is that, given it’s free, it is difficult to get quality support. AND, if you decide to use a custom layout (as I do), there is a good chance that AutoMOD and some of the custom modifications will not work properly unless you do some manual coding, or maybe not at all. This has been a real thorn in my side at The Brink Forum. Even getting Google Analytics installed was a tremendous task. But, I don’t think it’s necessary yet to upgrade to vBulletin.

Site seems to be erroring out right now, but from the screenshots I like the black and dark blue. On the topic of forums, I think vBulletin is highly over priced for what they offer now days. The 3.8.* series was their glory days and now IPB and Xenforo are going to be eating up all their customers.

phpBB isn’t nearly as noob friendly as a lot of other forum software out now, but it has the most extensions out of the free market. I personal pick for a free forum software is MyBB though. Once more styles and plugins are made for it, it’s going to dominate all the free pickings I think.

yeah there was error , but now its fixed. i orverloaded server with stuff

about free stuff.
i like free stuff. but i hate ads… only way how to get rid of ads on ā€œfreeā€ forum is to pay for ad removal.
vbulletin is cheaper , than ā€œfreeā€ solution, realy.

ps.
 that style is my favorite too

Thing is, all those great extentions were only built for the prosilver and subsilver templates. You go changing templates like I did and suddenly you find that those extentions don’t work properly. Then you have to go in and start manually re-coding crap, which is just awful. Still, my forum is satisfactory to me for now. Only as it grows leading up to the game launch do I figure that I’ll need to consider updating to something more friendly.

(xTriXxy) #14

yeah, your forum is OK. also good domain lol. chosing phpbb was not good decision. changing into another style is possible if you have access to sql.

(TimeLincoln) #15

Yeah I’ve been there. I recommend looking at MyBB and I believe they have a phpbb->Mybb converter to make it easier on you. The hardest part would be converting your theme over. Everything else will be cake compared to phpbb from there on.

(xTriXxy) #16

not only more options, brink styles, modifications and so on, but also you may publish your own content on main page.

new rank called: awesome members

(DarkangelUK) #17

So I get that by default yeah?

(Vaporman) #18

That should be a non-issue. The MySQL database is supposedly easy to convert to a new vBulletin board and other forum software.

I haven’t checked out MyBB before. I’ll consider it when looking to convert. Thanks for the recommendation.
