hardcore mode ?

(Atavax) #101

i understand the concept of context perfectly well, and i have understood what you’re saying for a long time, since post 78 if you want me to be exact. just because i disagree with you, doesn’t mean i don’t understand what you are claiming. and if you think on the board of these forums, when you say hardcore modes promote twitch aiming well, you aren’t comparing hardcore mode to other modes, you are sorely mistaken.

(DarkangelUK) #102

Nah I’m not mistaken at all m8, but I think we can leave it there don’t you think… we’ll end it on a high of you coming round

Camping can be a skill… I did it in W:ET all the time.

…But I was usually in disguise…executing other players(L9 LW).

Probably not quite the same thing.

(Atavax) #104

ok, whats the difference between someone doing well on a test, and hardcore mode doing well promoting twitch aiming. Doing well on a test depends on how well others do on the test, why doesn’t a specific shooter mode doing well on twitch aiming depend on how well shooters in general do in promoting twitch aiming?

(SphereCow) #105

I think hardcore mode would be sweet, but I’m picturing it a completely different way. It’d be a client side option, rather than server side. You’d have the option to use movement techniques reminiscent of Quake, Wolf, or UrT4 that would reward you based on how well you did in the moment. It’d be nice.

You really won’t quit with these poor analogies. A test has questions and a passmark, the more you get right the better you did on the test… others doing the test has no baring on how well you did. The passmark is 80%… if you were the only person doing that test, getting 99% means you did well… because the context is the passmark, your basis. Again your analogy supplied no basis or context, it was so vague it could be anything… a urine test? A math test? A driving test?

Right mate I think you need grow up and let go, we’re not going to change any opinions here, and lets be honest it’s a bloody childish debate. You’re not getting my point and no amount of explaining is going to help you, I’ve gave you more than enough examples (which you ignored or didn’t get, not even the basketball one!). It’s time to put this to rest I think… I think your pride is making you carry this on, you’d rather argue for the sake of arguing than admit you didn’t understand it.

What brink needs is a stamina bar.

(DarkangelUK) #108

Aw hell naw dawg! I’m not a fan of stamina bars, they just become a pain tbh, sprinting to get somewhere becomes a little mini-game in itself. Sprint, normal pace till small charge, sprint again but not as far, repeat.

(SphereCow) #109

I was trolling, considering our last discussion about stamina bars and sliding. Anyhow, I liked it in ET a lot. Instead of stealing the gold on Goldrush(with elevator/back stairway) being a “shoot two of six guys in the face, grab gold and run like hell” you had to pace yourself a lot more, and the game instantly become engrossing. You had to think about how you were going to get in, when you were going to kill which guys, based on their class/personality/weapons and location relative to the room and each other, because you had a much lower chance of evading all of them shooting you in the ass, AND getting to the tank. It made the pace of the game far more dynamic, which I totally loved.

On the other hand, It would have been nice if stamina depleted slower, and regenerated much slower, but with an exponential curve, that is, regenerating faster, but starting off slower.

But I don’t care much for minute details like that anymore. For some ten years I was adverse to any games that deviated too far from the Quake formula(which I still consider one of the best), but after giving W:ET a chance some 5 years ago it blew my mind, and I’ve been playing many more games since.

I even gave CoD4 a chance on a freaking console and had a hell of a time slapping semtex on dudes, tac inserting behind enemy lines, getting grenade launcher headshots and using the ass clapper 130.

Just be more open to things. <3 That’s all I’m saying.

this is the truth

Agreed, i’d rather play Q3/QL on most occasions

not all newbies[aka “noobs” on newbies slang]have HARD core.
actually not all veterans of gaming have hard one.
