Hard system crash caused by NV 52.16 drivers and Punkbuster

(nate.h) #1

One of the guys I work with has gotten it verified by the guys at punkbuster that the new nVidia detonator drivers (52.16) may in some cases cause conflicts with Punkbuster that will cause the system to hard freeze during gameplay. They currently do not understand the nature of this problem and don’t have an ETA for the fix.

If you are experiencing this problem, it is reccomended that you roll back your nVidia drivers to a previous version.

Yup, this happened to me. I freaked out because I couldn’t get my ET fix.
The driver roll back did do the trick for me though.

related ta freezing,

using XP, I have found that once I enter ET,
If I ctrlaltdel to taskmanager and then rightclick ET.exe -> priority->set at “BelowNormal” the number a times my old computer freezes up is reduced.

Of course I tried AboveNormal at first… yuck… my mouse and ET was playing different games it seemed.

:skull:

P.S. I could be wrong but i think I read the above tip in one of Lekdevil.NL’s, local pb expert, posts.

some people have said pb_system 1 has helped.

Just a bump… the 52.16 drivers made me freeze as well. Driver roll-back worked fine.

Confirmed, happened to me. the new Nvidia driver is causing crashes on the current version, so bad that I cant even get back to windows. Also have to do with version problem. I got back to the original version and nothing happened.

Btw how do u roll back to the previous version driver

(sniser) #7

Uninstall (config -> software), then install the old ones?

There are new nVIDIA ForceWare drivers 52.70 (Beta). Anyone tried them? Does ET crash with them?

:bump:

I want to know if the 52.70 works too.
