halo is so outdated now and it looks crap on the PC. If u look about ull find screen shots of the beta wich is aparently all over the net. Has a little better bumpmappin… a few higher rez texures but low polycount models and stuff… id save yer cash for a dencent game like hl2 or doom3. Also theres aparently an Xbox Emu that run’s halo on yer pc fine.
Halo PC
well if u think about it… it might do but at the same time its still an xbox port. how long ago was the doom3 aplha released and that looked WAY better. id say dont buy it, get hl2 or doom3 or if u have an xbox just get halo2 when its out… but thats just me. Id have bought halo PC no problem before it was takein to the xbox and dumbed down a little.
I mentioned the Niven works solely because (I think) he was the first guy to come up with a “hey, what if there was a world, but it was ring-shaped and fucking huge” idea. If you really, really, really, really want to see how the Bungie guys spent their time in college, read the Banks shit–the culture series is chock-full of inspiring concepts later to be found scattered throughout various Bungie works: the starshipship AI personalities–Leela, Durandal, Tycho, Cortana, et cetera–are perfect examples of Iain M. Banks’ “mind” AI implimentation, and while Niven’s Ringworld was huge beyond the reaches of human comprehension, Banks’ “orbitals” were much more “halo-sized.” “Welcome to Burger King, can I take your order?” “Sure… I’d like one ringworld, but halo-sized.” “That will be eight-hundred and ninety-two octillian dollars, please.”
I think this is the most important thing said here so far… besides the various encouragements to read ;^) Surely you guys have all heard what “Halo” was supposed to be before Microsoft bought Bungie out and demanded an xbox version of “Perfect Dark,” right? It was supposed to be a squad-based warfare game that took place in a perpetual online world. Bungie, back in 1998-99, had the creative talent to do it, too. How fucking awesome would that have been? Think “Planetside,” but without all the sucking.
No get your facts right. Halo wasn’t ever going to be a MMRPGFPS, what a mouthfull, like Planetside. It was going to be more like Tribes.
Doubtfull !!!
Think about it…The 1.5 beta is the kind they would send out to magazines for them to preview.
What would be the purpose of sending out a game that looks soooo outdated…It would only get bad publicity.
I was excited 2-3 years ago, but not anymore.
Sorry, but, in actuality, Halo was originally going to take place in a “perpetual” online world. The original plan called for Halo to be a third-person (as opposed to first-person) shooter involving squad-based and vehicular gameplay in a perpetual online ringworld. Get your facts straight.
I’ll give it a try when it comes out… downloaded ofcourse lol
I’ve played it round a friends house online using gamespy alot and its quite a good game but xbox controllers are *****! lol as I said to my friend who plays it all the time give me a keyboard and mouse and I’ll beta ya any day…
Anyoen know of any halo tourneys that went on in UK? as everyone is saying a boy from my school won one and is going to korea to play finals but can’t find any that were in UK recently

regardless of what it was or was not going to be the fact remains it is the best single player shoot up around at the moment. Really it’s awesome. Fair enough to say its getting old now but look what game came out at the same time. RTCW and Halo were released within a few weeks of each other (in the US) to put it in its proper perspective. I hope Bungie do justice to the PC version becasue im looking forward to re-playing the whole thing again.
After reading that again I see that you probably mean microsoft wanted THE first person shooter to compete with nintendo’s THE first person shooter, Perfect Dark…
I was a bit confused because I know Bungie didn’t make PD, it was of course, RARE… and I only reply because as we all know… Microsoft of course owns Rare now… :disgust:
But yeah… disregard my irrelevent post. :drink:
