Guns have no recoil?

(AKASneaky) #141

It seems like there is slight recoil in ironsight mode and no recoil in normal mode. Just the crosshair/spread gets bigger the longer you shoot, so it favors burst fire if your not going to use ironsight. Jumping, moving your aim really fast…etc, will all increase the spread and not moving/crouching (or proning?) will reduce it.

lol @ “no recoil = no skill” like the only skilled part of an FPS is the shooting. Yes, it is a major part but it’s not the be all & end all. You could be the best shooter in the World, but if you came up against somebody who knew what they were doing & could move around the terrain better than you, chances are you’re toast.

I think SD already did a great job implementing the weapons. They sound just like they’re supposed to and I bet they will “feel” like their real life counterparts, including recoil. Badman already said they’re working on it (PC), so it’s gonna be just fine.

Adding recoil is a great idea regardless of whether the game is more or less competitive, then.

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #144

Almost no recoil there that i can see. Recoil and its magnitude depend on the user of the weapon rather than the just purely the weapon (to the best of my knowlege).

(shedim) #145

Might look different on the move. He’s struggling not to lose balance though, so I won’t say the guns don’t have recoil.

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #146

Yeah i undertsand 2 of those things must have really immense recoil. But the recoil people seem to want in games is the sort of recoil that makes the gun move all over the place. That video shows the effects of recoil differ depending on the weapon and user. Well that my understanding. I welcome someone with superior knowlege correcting me.

recoil or no recoil, it isnt skill dependent. period.

aiming consists of several parts, the most fundamental are:
accuracy and speed.

that is the purest model for aiming you could use, and it is used by quake.
if you’re faster and aim better you win, period
skill is concentrating on those 2 points and you’ll even have a lot harder time to maximize these points than in any other game, as every milisecond counts, you cannot compensate your bad accuracy or speed by having better recoil control.

counter strike uses a different system:
accuracy, speed, recoil and movement

here you have to control your recoil and you have to have good movement, moving while shooting will result in a penalty for accuracy of the weapon you carry, and spraying 30bullets into your enemy without using short burst fire will result in the same.
suddenly you can be actually bad at accuracy and speed, but compensate it by having better recoil/movement management.
It’s one of the reason why it is way easier to get back into CS after a long FPS brake than it is to get back into quake.

most console shooters nowawadays use the second system, albeit heavily reduced.
movement and recoil management arent nearly as important as they’re in CS and the games also focuss alot more on speed than on accuracy, 4 shots to the pinky are enough to kill someone in CoD, so why bother aiming for the head.

when accuracy becomes less important, recoil and movement become less important aswell…
you start ignoring the penalties as you dont care if you hit him 4 times in the leg or 4 times in the chest, the result is the same.

no recoil = no skill is the dumbest thing ever.
especially if it comes from the console players that never even expierienced proper done recoil systems…

Basically what I wanted to say, but in more detail.

I agree 100%

No recoil does equal no skill to some degree, if targets move slowly. I’d like to see one of these things change for the pc version. Preferably the latter.

(InternetsWrong) #150

sigh… a lack of recoil or no recoil does not = less skill or no skill.

Perfect example Unreal Tournament (Pick your flavor I prefer 2004) it had no recoil yet it still stands out as one of the most skill intensive fps games ever created especially 2003/04. If I listed fps games in accordance with skill needed it would be at the top.

You also move fairly fast in UT.

If you watch the ahem terrible illegal bad videos of a full match on Aquarium that were posted up this morning you would see that the guy is using the Kross and the Carb-9 and both have pretty significant upward recoil.

Granted he was not very good, but it was noticeable and threw his aim off pretty quickly.

(madness) #153

yes, and the video about hipfiring also showed quite a lot of spray…a bit too much for my liking. video quality was crap though, so couldn’t tell for sure.
