Guns have no recoil?

(brbrbr) #101

no recoil/spread==no fun/challenge/meaning in skills.
guys wanted to play with “pew-pew”-laser-alike “guns”, usually buy other games.
/peace.

I don’t mind either the recoil or the no recoil style shooters, but Brink should be a shooter with no dynamic recoil, and it’s very silly how some people think that little/no recoil = no skill. That’s the way it was in ET titles, which all required a substantial amount of skill to play, although apparently a lot of CoD players think partially random bullet cone spread as well as no crosshair recentering is the only way to go. The degree of skill both creates is very much arguable but that doesn’t mean one is better than the other both have their place in PC titles both competitive and not. See: CS compared to QW/W:ET

I think having recoil in this game that matches some of the simulation/hardcore style games (CoD, Battlefield, etc) would make hitting parkouring players nearly impossible. Oh look, that guy is sliding under some rails and then up and over a box and under a table! Let me start shooting at him… crap, my gun just shifted. And again. Oh god I hit him with 2 bullets and… he’s gone around a corner.

I think given the mechanics of the game, and what the parkour is going to add, a decent-to-high amount of recoil would severely handicap anyone trying to shoot someone currently in “movement mode”. I think it’d also make it very easy for a light weight operative to escape just about anyone. All he’d have to do is start SMARTing to the nearest hole or bunker or around a corner, and if you don’t have some really good luck on your recoil he’s going to be crazy hard to kill.

But, this is all just speculation. Can’t say til I actually see the game since I’ve never dealt with shooting anyone mid-parkour.

I’ve seen guys saying that their wish for the game is for that to be the case. For it be almost impossible to hit parkouring lights. And that as lights they could execute OHKs with revolvers and crap like that through head shots against the “slow and useless” heavies.

(H0RSE) #105

Yes, I have seen my fair share of those people…

The ones who think that Lights should move at light speed, be stealthier than a ninja, more badass than Chuck Norris, AND it should all come naturally, and no little to effort should be needed to achieve it - Like simply the act of selecting to play Light = automatic win.

meanwhile, they look at Heavies as slow, lumbering behemoths that despite only being a character in a video game that is controlled by a human, are dumber and less capable than Lights.

Fluffy does a damn good job as a heavy medic w/minigun, made me think about it

Except for Quake Live, and it’s an old game made available by browser, there’s no more recoil-free multi shooter.

simulation/hardcore style games (CoD, Battlefield, etc)

Am I the only one to see some mistakes in these associations ?

next “example” would be farmville, i guess.
no, you not. not only and not one.
plenty of MMOFPS producers/managers do same. and FAIL.

(RadBrad31) #109

JeP - I referred to those as “simulation/hardcore” because they lean more toward the realism and grittiness of war. More so than games like Brink whereas the characters are more cartoonistic and the gameplay isn’t realistic. Of course it isn’t real simulation or anything like that, it’s just easier to display my point using those as rough examples. Sorry if I’m not being 100% perfect on the point for you, perhaps you could correct my mistake instead of just pointing it out as one?

(brbrbr) #110

skills should MATTER.
not character management or config whoring, but gaming skills meant.

(RadBrad31) #111

It’s easy to say it won’t take skill to kill people but how can you back that up? Everyone will be on a level playing field, so the cream will rise to the top. Now, if Security didn’t have recoil and Resistance did, Security would obviously have an advantage and would beat Resistance most of the time (likely). But if both teams have the equal amount of recoil (or none) then it would come down to strategy, timing, and reaction time. Do those things take no skill?

(Slade05) #112

It`s Bas, he does not need to back **** up.
I find whole argument highly amusing due to the fact that both ETQW and W:ET had easily controllable weapon drag, not even recoi in a common sence of the word, yet nobody was screaming NO SKILL BAAAW BAAAAW.

I’m confused, what is your definition of skill exactly?

I had the idea that skill was the understanding of rules and working effectively in them.
So if everyone is under the same rules, how is skill not applied?

(Seyu) #114

How does removing gun recoil benefit the unskilled?

(Crytiqal) #115

Isn’t this game supposed to have very high customisable configs?

(Whydmer) #116

I thought I read that the guns in this game do have a certain amount of recoil?

(Slade05) #117

They certainly do, it is most likely ETQW style, so to have your screen facing up you`ll need to empty like three magazines of your AR of choice.

(nhiverson) #118

So it’s pretty close to release are you able to tell us what is different on PC? Thanks

(beute) #119

it’s pretty obvious that they’re not allowed to talk about PC specific features all that much… to prevent a possible outcry by the console players… that always want the same, yet also want to pay less for their system…
just look at what happened in the homefront forums or the battlefield3 situation right now.
