Grenade Binds

(Rahdo) #61

Okay, this is why I suggested in my other post that I’d try to get a big proper “all the cards on the table” discussion about PC controls going next week, after I get clearance to mention the ____________, _______________, ________ and _________ features, since I imagine there’s as many opinions on this stuff as there are players.

In the mean time, I shall leave you with a magic pony
I’m actually going to have a rant here.

Perhaps if you were actually able to offer information to the community when there was still time to fix it, Brink wouldn’t have terrible grenade controls that force to me to retrain how I use a mouse or buy footpedals to use them properly.

Consolitis.

They didn’t care to ask PC gamers for feedback. Makes you wonder what other sacrifices are being made. Last time I heard SMART system was totally optional and you could use crouch/jump for these actions instead… I guess we won’t see vertical maps either - it’s too hard to aim with a pad !

At least there’s still Natural Selection 2, last bastion of good PC shooters. It’s going to have dedicated servers only, the editor is already released (before game’s launch). Id Software and Splash Damage you can’t count on anymore, they’re huge corporations where lawyers and managers have the last word. I hope Unknown Worlds and the like take their place.

(Rahdo) #63

Really? You think we don’t care? That I don’t care? Even though I’m here on my day off,(as are other Splash guys) and check the boards almost daily, talking directly to you guys about a huge manner of topics, trying to get to the bottom of what you need and why. I even apologize when I get something wrong, and you say I don’t care?

If I’m honest, as stupid as this sounds, it really hurts my feelings that you guys would accuse me of that. Think I’ll leave it for awhile.

I would like to get my nose dirty and say i am thankful that splashdamage shows an interest in the community.

Thankyou rhado for actually giving us info here on the boards, taking time out from your off days to keep us up to date and getting bethesda to open up a bit.
If it was not for you we would probably only just be finding out that there is no female avatars in game and the smart button.

Thankyou.

Don’t listen to that guy.

I absolutly think u guys care. There are many devs involved in this thread, and its a sunday!
And I don’t want u guys to feel bad when I brought this whole nade thing up.
I am just hoping there is still time to implement it like ET:QW has, on a weaponbank.
To clarify the final script (with correct spelling for MoP!!)

set nadearmed “bind G $nadedisarmed; bind mouse1 _weapon3; addchatline ‘Grenade Equipped’”
set nadedisarmed “bind G $nadearmed; bind mouse1 _attack; addchatline ‘Weapon Equipped’”
bind G $nadearmed

It’s purely rebinds so should work fine in theory.
Is this really the only option? :’(

Can’t the code be like this?:

set nadearmed “bind 4 $nadedisarmed; bind mouse1 _weapon3; showmodel ‘grenade-arm’”
set nadedisarmed “bind 4 $nadearmed; bind mouse1 _attack; showmodel ‘mainweapon-arm’”
bind 4 $nadearmed

Or “showmodel ‘previousweapon-arm’” or whatever…

I hope tomorrow everyone at the meeting-table will agree on the weaponbank system…
(Or whatever you guys do to get the week started)

Greetings,
A hopeful SD-fan…

jazevec, listen to yourself.
Rahdo, you’re awesome!

(Jamieson) #67

I don’t think its as bad as jazevec is saying Im grateful that you guys actually listen but i do think you took your eye off the ball abit. I’m also glad you apalogised as well.

We just need to communicate more and make sure there is no more misunderstandings between the information you pass us and the feedback we give you. I know its hard not to take things personally but we want this game to be as successful as you guys to so please dont. Its not worth throwing away the good relationship you have with the community anway.

Edited - sorry double post

For what it’s worth (not much, I expect), that pm I sent you a while ago still applies.

I guess the majority here agrees that you are doing an awesome job. The communication between SD and the community is remarkably better than everything I have ever seen, especially because of you Rahdo

We still want this game to kick ass, so please excuse us if we are kinda angry about some things like one button nades and preselectable tools

(H0RSE) #71

As I said earlier, it sucks for weapons but is quite good to select tools that are normally 5,6,7,8.
I always bind my tools to to X,C,V,B this way they are close to my movement buttons, and I can access them with my thumb. I agree, the mouse wheel sucks for pretty much anything.

(.Chris.) #72

One random guy who’s had no previous input on this particular issue doesn’t represent the rest of us, doubt he’s even read the whole thread and the previous one.

(knippon) #73

even if it isn’t the outcome that I preferred, I"m grateful that SD is listening to our small voices and offered up a solution. Please don’t be discouraged by some of the less than classy remarks. I for one am very glad you acknowlegded us.

Quick question about shooting nades out of the air.

Say I’m getting ready about to throw a nade, a guy is flanking me from the side and opens fire. Will the nade get blown up by his bullets right as I release the nade? Or will there be some time before the nade can be blown up by bullets?

(tokamak) #74

Exactly my feelings. Besides Radho has faced far bigger amount of verbal abuse (IE ranting morons) during his competition interview.

(channa) #75

weapon bank is a must
keep up the good work

(3Suns) #76

I’m new to this forum, but I’ve been very active in other gaming forums for well over ten years now and I have never witnessed as much participation and direct communication by the developers themselves as there is here.

(H0RSE) #77

Because I like to cook my grenade, and cooking it on a different keyboard key is interfering with movement so it would need to be on my mouse. Thus I would have to bind a key on my mouse solely to throw 1 grenade, also affecting the aim when u have to hold it down…

I’m not talking about it interfering with movement or anything like that. Put all the “conflicting with my movement” stuff aside. What I’m saying is if there was a dedicated nade button, that did not interfere with movement whatsoever, would you prefer the dedicated button, or would you still rather select the nade and wait for the perfect moment, with an un-primed nade in your hand, not able to shoot and an easy target?

Would you stil prefer “the old way” if this whole “movement issue” wasn’t a problem?

(Apoc) #78

The weapons bank is just brilliant imo. It stops hud clutter since you know how many nades you have when you equip them. It takes say half a second to equip it and for some reason just feals “right”.
Also not having the bank uses up another bind, and well since its grenades id have to bind it to a pretty easy to access key, which there are a limited number of, and none of those keys could be near the movement ones or it would infringe on my movement etc…

Another big point is that when using ui_showgun 0 where the gun model isnt shown, having a weapons bank allows you to easily identify which weapon you have out. Without it, its hard to tell without firing… also with nades you cant tell that well if you are in fact cooking the grenade or its the reload of the previous gun (they often have similar symbols) (nade button may not have reacted or got stuck or something)

Point is weapon banks are the way forward. Maybe not for consoles but definately for pc, and since, iv heard, brink arent just going to do a direct console port for the pc (thank god) would it be too much to ask for a weapons bank? or the choice of a weapons bank?

Thats my 2 cents anyway. Hope someone from splash damage reads it, would greatly apreciate it

I think I would still prefer the old way.
I don’t know but when using a seperate key to select a weapon, then for fireing it, is familiar behaviour with any other weapon u have. Why would a grenade behave differently then selecting a gun?

AS for “not be able to shoot an easy target” You can switch back to your main gun within 0.1 sec asswell.
I have the main gun bound to my mouse4 key. (And yes that is different then having a grenade on mouse4 key, because I don’t have to press and HOLD my mouse4 to fire the maingun.)
