Grenade Binds

(Joe999) #241

a quote i read recently fits here: “Voice chat defaults to off,” adds Stern, seemingly overlooking that insults, racism and trolling are as much a part of online gaming as the dedicated servers Splash Damage so cherish. “Why on Earth would voice chat ever default to on? What beautiful world do people live in where that’s a really good idea?”

it’s not only gaming. you just can’t avoid the occasional retard on the internet. but you don’t have to value their irrelevant insults.

took me awhile but i’ve finally read the whole thread. first of all, my point of view is kinda similar to Ryans (even though i might not have used the same words), i’d prefer the usual weaponbank-feature. but, on the other hand i’m satisfied with the DarkangelUK-fix (which was confirmed by Rahdo that it did work).

however, i would still like to support the issue Voxie brought to attention (which had not yet been replied to by splash);
First of all, this thread is rapidly spiraling out of control; just because your views differs from someone else’s does not mean that you have to call people names. A locked thread will in no way help make our opinions heard. /end_rant

Secondly, seven pages in it seems like few of you paid any attention to RR2DO2’s post.

My preposition is simple, instead of adding a weapon bank for nades – which will require man-hours better spent on other things (as stated before by Rahdo, if i remember correctly) – why not make this alternative priming system part of Brink? In the gameplay options, let us choose if we want the grenade button to be held or toggled. To me this seems like a feasible way to cater to “weapon bankers” without having to rewrite loads of code.

Not only will this allow players to instantly prime their nades, it will also not be a hindrance to your movement at all; tapping the nade button once to prime, then again to throw it clearly obstructs your aim and movement less that scrolling to the nade slot with your mouse wheel/pressing the corresponding key, then holding your left mouse button.

So, who’s with me?
also, i’d like to express my gratitude towards the splash damage people who continue to show their support to the pc community. the apology by Rahdo is something you just wouldn’t normally get. and that’s one of many reasons why Brink will be the game to watch for 2010.

thanks for the kind words, dohf (and everyone else who said so). i tried this morning to start going through this thread again, but when i got to the post where it was stated that i’m either a) a “liar” or b) “don’t know what I’m talking about”, i decided it was a lost cause :frowning: I just don’t need that kind of attitude in my life. if someone said that to me in real life, i’d just walk away, and so i had to do so here. if i see people calling each other idiots in real life, i tend to walk away from that too. maybe i’m a sensitive sally, but at 40 years old, i’ve decided i just don’t have time for that shit anymore.

but yes, my hope is to have an many options as possible for toggle vs. shift keys in the shipping game. have already identified sprint, crouch and ironsights as needing the choice, and will be investigating (as i originally said when i first talked about darkangel’s brilliant script solution) the feasibility of grenade being added to that list too (though, it’s more complicated).

Sorry if I’m burdening you with too many requests, but there was some game I can’t remember where tapping a button behaved as a toggle while holding it down behaved as expected. Obviously that wouldn’t be a good model for grenades but it was very good for iron sights and sprint.

The thread also went downhill fast after the point you stopped reading and became about people than discussion. You’ve missed little.

(tokamak) #245

I like that. Holding until the animation is completed stops it from being a toggle. Optional of course.

i’m curious about what kind of prevention you planned for brink. after all it’s the internet and the stuff that happened to you here will happen in the game as well. many times. eg will there be a blacklist of words with auto-kick from server or auto-mute? i’ve seen in a brink vid that you can push other people. wolf:et had the problem that eg if you as a covert op killed the enemy and tried to get the uni, someone of your team occasionally came, pushed you away and stole that uni. is that possible in brink? what other mechanisms are there to regulate an enjoyable game? eg limited number of kick-votes per user, auto-kick of idle players, kick of suicide killers (who eg run multiple times into the enemy with a hot grenade), etc?

(channa) #247

having it as a weapon bank is a must

ryan let these guys talk crap stop getting worked up there probably enjoying it, there just enjoy dumbed down games thats not your problem

voip is a good feature, i dont really use voip in pub but i do in scrims even tho we have ts /vent available

why cant it be like etqw voip the end user chooses to use or mute it makes everyone happy

oh look its an account created solely to post in this thread

try reading what came out of it instead of trying to stir shit up again

(tokamak) #249

Oh come on, every account starts that way.

(Senethro) #250

Every accounts begins by beating a dead horse?

(.Chris.) #251

No one forcing you to follow the thread you know, it was pretty much dead before you prolonged it by about 4 pages anyway…

(signofzeta) #252

Yeah, some people just posted here just to really express their opinions. Some of us just don’t care. Out of those who don’t care, some of us just don’t post here, and some of us post random stuff, just to know what the next guy says next, either from the grenade bind side, or the weaponbank side, and find a good laugh from it.

(nilco) #253

HAHAHAHAH BioSnark gets the award for most retarded comment of this entire thread.

Just because the poll shows diffrent results then what you voted dosent mean its biased.

Other then that I must say its been a blast reading the back and foruth betwen crytiqal and senthro.

XOXO

Thats not how polls work. To be a good poll it needs to be a genuine random sample of whatever you define as the potential Brink playerbase. Instead its SD’s biggest fans who have a tendency to older, opinionated and set in their ways. The poll size also isn’t big enough. 30 real votes and 30 fence sitting votes are not a sufficiently large sample of what we hope will be a game that breaks a million sales.

The poll question isn’t even accurate any more. If the correct question of “Do you think its worth taking resources and development time from other things to add weaponbank grenades?” was asked then I suspect the results would be different!

(BioSnark) #255

@nilco: read ur pm’s and feel free to respond if you like

(brbrbr) #256

except dead horse accounts.
which is strikes back !! Whooosh !!!

actually i made an account to vote for a weaponbank

i might now go and make an account to post this on crossfire as im sure the crossfire community would also love a weapon bank

Do it! Theres enough CoD4 players on cf.nu that I can’t imagine even they would care about it.

(xdc) #259

bank worked fine for me in etqw, i never really overscrolled my weapon or w/e, pressing the bind felt just as fast. i cant see why it wouldnt be a option to choose bank or not anyway
