Great job, and thanks for the Linux Client!

(mono) #1

I dl’d the linux client last night, upon release. What a pleasure to get a simultaneous release. Thanks a lot Splash Damage! :drink:

I like the ET Test, although there are some changes to wolf that will need some getting used to.

I imagine a lot of artwork, .wavs, and character animation from the original RtCW has been removed for IP reasons. That said, the original Sounds were FAR superior (my biggest complaint). I suppose you can’t use the original .wavs on a free product? But at least crank the volume way up so you can actually hear it, and my hope, get the original voice talent back. The only other superficial issue is when someone cries for ammo or medic, the obvious directional cues on the original wolf compass seem to be missing here.

Otherwise, a great job. I loved Marketgarden and the official wolf expansion maps (tram, et al) and I can’t wait for the final release of ET. The skill progress and the requirement of teamwork (particularly multiple engies working on long construction jobs) to really succeed is great! I hope tools are provided so the community can take all the work you’ve done and keep the game alive.

It would also be great if a patch for RtCW could allow it to work with ET, since the ET limbo screen and server join screen is so much better than the those provided in the original RtCW. That way everyone could enjoy the free ET but those long time wolfers could wrap the best of ET back into the full Wolf release.

Cheers, and thanks again.
