Graphics

(Mutley_NoSkill) #1

I just found this old screenshot and was breath taken, it looks incredible:

I’m just wondering, if the retail game will actually be like that (with sufficient system requirements) or if it has been “toned down” in optimizing during development, as the newest screenshots don’t seem to show the same visual quality?

(Please don’t start the gameplay > graphics discussion, I’m just making a point  lol)

it has been said many times, all screenshots were taken in game

(Mutley_NoSkill) #3

I do understand that but like many interviews where they discuss features they always say it “might change by release”, so could/has it for graphics?

no

so what would it take to be amazing to you? strappng you and throwin you out in battle? :stuck_out_tongue:

All screenshots have been from in game, AFAIK, the lack of quality in recent shots may just be due to the setup on the machine that the screen has been taken from.

im sure they toned down a bit to work on computers from the 90’s

All the screenshots are indeed from in-game. That said, if you want to get a feel for how ETQW will be, check out the various gameplay videos dotted around the InterTubes and extrapolate from there. I guess my point is that screenshots aren’t how any game feels. Certainly in ETQW you don’t really have the time to admire the gorgeous vistas during combat, what with the running and shouting and shooting and ground and air vehicles and deployables and hooting and pointing. It’s going to look awesome, but I wouldn’t want anyone to expect ETQW to be some sort of Myst-style Environment Appreciate-'Em-Up: it’s all about the “Bang” and “WTF was THAT?”, not so much the “Ooooooh prettyyyyyy”.

Sounds like every current-gen MMORPG.

Well, Guild Wars is pretty … World of Warcraft is stylistically very beautiful - that engine is perfectly designed to incorporate a particular style. Too bad it is a life-sucking-leech-of-a-game with a business model that should probably be illegal.

Lord of the Rings online seems to be best at providing beautiful vistas and nice renderings of parts of Middle Earth - comparable to a lot of the artwork that has been done since Tolkien created the place. Again with the life-sucking, but so be it - I’ll bet you can farm broccoli somewhere in that game.

Still, none of these seem to look as nice engine-wise as QW since they are designed to scale down and work on extremely old hardware (Market Share FTW) so that everyone and their grandmother can be addicted if necessary.

It’s pretty sweet to watch engines evolve over the years since Doom’s raycasting (or wolfenstein3d for that matter).

a friend showed me once (let it be 2000) that Q3 is only a giant graphics tool: high railtrailtime on q3dm17 and be creative

lets see what QW will have for us

There is way too much standing around and nowher near enough bunnyhopping in the screen.

This is a joke.
