graphics glitch when windowing game

All of a sudden today, out of the blue, I can no longer window and fullscreen ETQW anymore. When I try to start the game up in windowed mode or switch from fullscreen to windoweded mode, ETQW just starts flashing and my mouse begins to appear/disappear very fast until windows shuts etqw down for crashing/not responding. I didn’t really make any changes to my settings or graphics prior to this, although I noticed my usual windows background was missing and according to the control panel I no longer have access to set my own background, I had to find the picture myself and right click on it and set it as the background.

Any tips?

Are you using dual monitors mode, Feanor?

This happened here last day, and i just added, recently, a second monitor.

PS.: This second monitor is for video editing.

weird, i found a work-a-round where when the screen goes black and the mouse starts flashing I hit control+alt+delete, I get the blue Vista screen with the 4 options, then I wait about 3 seconds and hit “launch task manager,” the task manager launches and all of a sudden ETQW is running stable in windows mode behind it…

any clue what’s going on?

Maybe corrupted files or gfx card getting too warm IMO…

Do you have any other programms running. Not the programms that automaticly startup but programms you have to startup manually, like TS.
Don’t start those up. I’ve noticed problem with QW when i have programms running in the background.

Because of the mouse thing, I have to say its your GPU. Probably the ram on your graphics card is going bad.

But, if by chance it is a software issue. Download and run procexp. Try to look for anything weird.

Right click system idle/properties. It is the opposite of your total CPU usage, so if its extremely low you probably have a hardware issue or to many programs running at once.

If all else fails, before you buy another graphics card. Try formatting first or use a different HD.

Ok I attached the Procep log to this post.

Idle Processes was at about between 66% and 70% while running ETQW, Firefox, antivirus, teamspeak, ati control suite, logitech setpoint, zboard keyboard control software and winrar.

My system is:
q9550 quad core yorkfeld, 2.8 ghz
8gb ddr2 OCZ ram clocked @ 400mhz (stock clock)
GPU is: ATI 4870 1gb Sapphire, 256-bit (slightly overclocked for about a year with no problems)
HD: 280gb 10k RPM WD Velociraptor
MOBO: Asus Rampage Formula
OS: Vista Ultimate 64-bit

I ONLY have this problem when going to windowed from from fullscreen mode and only when ETQW is running, when I have the other games like FC2 running or FO3 running by themselves I don’t get this issue.

Is it tha sapphire card with the “free fan” or the fan is entirely in a “box” (sry for engrish, best way for me to explain), if its the total closed one you may open it and remove the dust, I had several ati card like this and the dust was allways a pain in teh arse, judging from the “late” problem its somthing that wasnt here before, so test your ram (memtest), try to stress your card (3Dsmax or smthing, cant remember the program…) and check your temperature while playing etc.
