well… you could call it arrogant too: simply ignoring the fact that its illegal and saying I don’t care.
Problem is you can’t get around such dumbnuts when you release a source-map of the stock maps. Maybe SD should ve released the .mapfile all in caulk or all in one texture to prevent this kind of ripping. I m pretty sure ppl who ride on that kind of wave will never spend the effort of re-texturing a complete map. As you ship the .map for educational purposes its not relevant whether its all caulked or 1 texture, you don’t look for texture work in this map.
but is it really illegal?
Enemy Territory is a free game, so it’s not like the devs are losing money over a player-made goldrush map. Also infact they would be gaining money because new maps are what keep this game alive.
Maybe they could sue for copyright infringment or something. That’s why in my SuperGoldrush I have states everywhere on the campaign info and in the readme that I have only modified the map I did not create the map 100% credit to Splash/ID
I don’t know why they would sue though it would just be negative attention for the company and they would lose money on future games. They could but they have no reason to really
“Splash damage sues 15 year old mapper for modifying one of their maps in a free game”
that would look good in the news >.<
