GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsyste

(stealth6) #1

This problem is starting to irritate me:

GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

It’s wierd though because most people have it or they don’t. I have it once every 2 times I play ET

so first time I press join game on xfire I have it, then I close the window try again and then it works.

If I stop playing and then I try to play again then I have it again, then I close the window try again and then it works again…

But it is pretty annoying, and if I do vid_restart in game it crashes with that error, and it fails to save my resolution preference.

I have searched on the topic and most of the time the advice is update your drivers, well I have and i still have the same problem. I thouhgt it might be my screen, but now I have a Brand new screen and still the same problem!!!

my grafics card is: ATI Radeon X1950PRO
screen is: Samsung suncmaster 223BW

I have the latest drivers and catalyst control center.
I have noticed that I can adjust some OpenGL settings with catalyst like:

-triple buffering
-Force 24-bit Z-buffer depth

Anybody else had this problem and know how to solve it??

drop xfire, its a POS software anyway.
im sure then its fixed.
i noticed, many ppl got kicked the last 2 days by PB which were running xfire (those without did stay).

the kick message is the best: “Punkbuster kicked Player” lol

ah yes, but even w/o xfire same problem but thanks for te tip on PB kicked, few peeps I know had that hehe

I am sure it has something to do with your driver, maybe you should check if you haven’t changed anything. When I changed some colors with my driver all my ET’s were also tripping. Maybe you can also try a REINSTALL of your driver and/or a reinstall of your ET.

tried both of those, but I’m gonna try a dual boot with linux soon, I’ll see if i then stilll have the same problem

Well, I have had this problem too. Frankley I almost distroyed my computer over it.

Xfires got nothing to do with it.
It is your video card. It took me so long to find the checkmark box on my video card that said something along the lines of Opengl32 compatible.

Opengl32.dll (if you dont know) is a system graphics dll file. look inside your videocard options and see if theres something involving opengl32.dll.

if not chuck out the one you have now and get a new one (thats what I did)

oh btw im running a Nvidia 7800. Nice little vid card too!

hehe, possible at the mo I have Radeon x1950PRO, but I was think of also just getting rid of it and getting something from nvidea
I have nothing against ATI, but since I use that I have many more problems then when I used nvidea, maybe nvidea is more noob friendly, and I am the noob, but then so be it :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you tried vacuuming your computers stomec? There might be some dust causing overheating. That’s what caused me these issues. Worth to do anyway every couple months.

(Killer-Duck) #9

Could be something in your autoexec thats causing it, eg some graphical cvar that your computer/monitor doesn’t support. Try with default settings.

yes, overheating caused me this issue also, but it was slightly rare.
after i cleaned all my cooling system i was also able to play etqw at 90fps(before 1-10fps) with a minspec rig.
also worth noting that latest drivers for ati are teh sux… and i recommend 7.6

I’m playing W:ET so old stuff :P, but got latest drivers, and my whole rig has had this problem since I put it together (Brand new)
and temperature is nice and cool

totally offtopic Just did a nice match 62-34 2 headshots average per kill 42 acc mmmmmm
