hmmm some interesting points…
I will add some points too as i have been playing BF2 and ET for years now, i have also done some mapping for the PR mod with one of my BF2 maps Sunset City is being played on full servers throughout the world.
Stats are always bad for mods, not knowing the full extent of the stats system in QW:ET but i do hope they ditch the 20 knife kills rubbish that is in BF2. Just a basic stats system like ABR which gives you more points on Teamplay, completing objectives etc…
Mods, the mod will have to be exceptionally good to pull players away from their stats to play a mod without a stats system. So for modders i feel it is a bad move. Mod teams may have to run an alternative stats/rank system like Project Reality Mod on BF2.
Mappers, maps i presume will be a no go in QW:ET ranked servers due to the stats system, this means if your a good mapper i suggest go and join a mod team now, but i think the days are gone where you could create a great map and then the servers owners could just add it and everyone could play it. These maps will need the seal of approval by Splash Damage/ID which i can not see happening (depending on how supporting they are), So bad for mappers like me
Clans, For clans another baddy as they will have to buy servers from premium companies that have signed a deal with Splash Damage/ID to run the ranking/stats system, so more clan subs. It will be ok if your just a QW clan but for those Multi-gaming clans out there it means more money. Or you will have to run a non-stats server which will be hard to attract lots of players.

I’m disappointed that you lied to the community. I’m disappointed that you sold out to the suits for an extra $1-$2 per title sold. I’m seriously pissed off that you ignore important things like this before trying to bring it up respectably with the community and work it out. Instead you make a final decision and then try and pamper us into believing utter BS, such as that “global stats will not effect gameplay in a bad way” or “in-game ads are unobtrusive”. I’m ultimately disappointed that you fail to answer honestly and directly with the community about these important issues.
Overall, I can see the problems with your actual business behind the scenes, and I can see that money is your God, not your community. So far I have seen nothing but tasteless disregard for the future of Quake Wars and computer gaming itself, all in favor for some extra revenues.
In-game advertising was always part of your plan, wasn’t it? Of course it was, and it just so happens that FilePlanet, (Gamespy, IGN) is a pro supporter of advertising in video games, as well as tracking what players look at in-game. And it just so happened that using ranked servers will force people to accept these in-game ads as “supplementary” to the cost of running Global Statistics. Really its the other way around, the stats are holding up the advertising potential of the game.
Why is this? Without stats, without ranks, people would not put advertising in their games, they would make new mods, new maps and leave the original ad-ridden game behind them. Same exact thing unfolded with the BF2142 mod community, and it failed horribly in the end.
I’m disgraced to say the very least. Whoever is ultimately responsible for all of this, you deserve every misfortune that is coming your way.

all this talk of Community, you’re not part of the community, you’re just a little whiner with a computer he prolly didn’t even pay for. The Community is the mappers and modders, people who put up and maintain resource sites, ftp servers for maps and files, in other words people who contribute their time and money to games they like.
