That’s in the okay range. Limited give-aways are a way of not spamming something. If they’d give out 250 keys for Rhino I wouldn’t be bothered, but giving out Rhino for the entire community would be a disaster, unless followed by a patch limiting games to one merc of each kind…

Even if you do not care about cosmetics, Obsidian cards are rare.
There is a chance you will never be able to get that card again.
Never.

It’s fine to give mercs away provided: 1. It’s not a regular thing (once in a blood moon) and 2. People who own the merc already are not penalised for doing so and also gets something equally worthwhile

This is a good idea, but only if they are reaching out via email to every player that has played the game, and the new patch is bug free and good enough to retain players that come back for their freebies. Otherwise it probably isn’t such a great move.

Also, I would have been tempted to go with an Engineer instead of a Medic, simply because it doesn’t add much for newer players who only have the initial mercs.

If you’re concerned about how they’ll make money, most likely they’ll eventually add cosmetic items that can only be purchased with real money with, maybe, some cosmetics that can be bought with credits and event cosmetics (I demand Santa Rhino!!).
