Giving mercs away for free, good or bad?

So, SD just announced on twitter that people who don’t own phoenix before the next update will get him for free, those who do, will get a sweet obsidian card for him and 2 elite cases, what do you think of this?

I love the idea behind this event. It gets a good medic into the hands of people who don’t have him and at the same time it rewards those who already purchased him so they don’t get burnt by having put time or effort into the game.

I would have had a problem with it if they didn’t compensate those who already owned him with this giveaway due to the nature of it.

He’s one of my favourite mercs! Shame I can’t get the obsidian, but I hope they do stuff in the future for obsidian cards.

I’m gueesing you don’t already have him, when i first read the tweet i instantly felt ripped off, until i got to the elite cases and the obsidian card part, there i just didn’t really know what to think.

This thread was aimed more towards people who have all mercs and how they feel compensated.

Anything that puts something besides Aura in the f2pers hands medic wise makes me happy, and I do own all mercs. :slight_smile:

Yeah, guess i’ll have to deal with Phoenix becoming a ‘‘schrödingers medic’’, as everyone will have from now on.

Nah, nah, what i meant is that, before the match begins, you don’t actually know if you’re gonna play with someone who actually gives health and revives, or they just go for kills.

I have all the mercs :slight_smile: I don’t mind people getting Phoenix for free at all - just like I didn’t mind the “Fragger and 50k Cr” codes that were around.

If you have Phoenix you get a nice Obsidian card and a couple fancy cases - that’s a nice surprise we didn’t know about!

The beta fighter cards were special obsidians for the people who participated in the stress test weekends.

On several occasions @MissMurder stated obisidian cards would be given away in the future for other events. It looks like this is one of those events.

It is likely this particular phoenix obsidian will not be available in the future based on the previous obsidian giveaways not being released again, but the future is always changing. The only confirmation we have about re-releasing obsidians is that the founders cards will NEVER become available again.

Maybe because they don’t like the concept of getting stuff that took you a while to get completely for free?

Or they feel like they weren’t compensated good enough?

I wouldn’t mind that. Think about it this way, a bad player with rhino is still a bad player. :slight_smile: Either way, this giveaway isn’t rhino, so you have nothing to worry about.
