like i sayd… i want to buy founder pack but i need more info ffs
! Dont want to spend 30$ for “dirty game”
I’ve played Blacklight: Retribution (the same engine, mechanics etc…) and its SUX so…
Give us MOREE info !
By the time the $30 founder pack buyers are actually able to play the game, I am sure you will have more info. This is nothing at all like BLR, I didn’t like that game very much…
Just in case the point and case hasn’t come across clear enough quite yet…
Priority Alpha access= Influence on shaping the overall game.
Beta= Playing the game when the core mechanics are near completion.
It’s pointless to give out information on a game in a stage where it is undergoing constant changes and heavy experimentation, so… decide if you want to be an alpha tester or a beta player. It’s really that simple, and if you continue to demand more… then it seems your real goal is just to try and get a free invite, which isn’t going to happen. SD has said it themselves “it’s ready when it’s ready”. They don’t want to lie to you, lead you on, or make promises they can’t keep, so just be patient and you will hear all you need to when the time comes.
^That’s true, however the only thing I think Splash Damage is doing wrong here is asking for money this far in advance with providing little information about the core game other than a few minutes of gameplay footage. The media black out on a game is fine when you’re not investing any cash into a game. But throw $$$ at a game (an eventually free game too) and I feel completely left in the dark. Maybe they could have given elite and veterans access to the beta forum to at least see the game as it develops, but lock out our ability to post there. I’ll be the first to mention SD made no promise of anything. And what they sold, we got. Yet it still doesn’t sit well with me that the game will be in development for so long with zero insight on how the development is going unless you drop the $120+.
Doing wrong ? They aren’t doing anything wrong, maybe something you don’t like, but not wrong. You thought droppin $30 would have you in like flynn, but when you found out it could be possibly be yearend, it was holy smokes how unfair
letting you read forums would confuse you even more as it’s a lot of log files and things that would be totally irrelevant without being in game.
I spend a lot of times looking for places to get stuck
Um Brinkman… your paying 120 to basically have more direct input into the development of the game and help to shape it hands on. That still doesn’t mean you get exactly what you ask for, but you get to communicate directly with the devs and thoroughly stress test the game and experimental ideas. Albeit a lot of the development choices are also based off of the open forum discussions here just as much. In the end SD just doesn’t want a bunch of impatient folk joining in masses so early in development with the mindset that the game will be near final or complete. Based off the “from the creators of ET and ETQW” and some of the alpha tester quotes, you can get the idea of what the focus of the game is on. What kind of info are you seeking? It’s a team based objective fps shooter with classes… the rest of it can’t be commented on at this time because it is not finalized. We have a lot of very thorough testers in alpha in all categories and it will show in the final product, but your missing the entire point here because the only way you would be truly happy with your reasoning is if SD didn’t allow anyone to privately alpha test like most other developers.
This is an important point.
What do you expect SD to share? There are obviously some, many, aspects that are simply not fixed enough to put out there in a public forum right now but if you want information maybe focus on what you expect from SD, perhaps they will be able to focus on that in a future update.
One thing that might be worthwhile is to give Beta testers access to their own sub-forum. Perhaps with some additional info that isn’t public yet. Or would this just be the start of giving an inch and people demanding a mile?
Then don’t spend any money and wait for some better game play footage to come out before making your decision. It’s not like the game is releasing right out of alpha or that it won’t change in beta. I read your post, but your not fully grasping how this whole thing is meant to work.
Woah I woke up with an email in my inbox from SD
Cliffs: they basically did exactly what I requested. Could be complete coincidence or maybe they were just sick of my whinging. lol
I think where the OP, and possibly Brinkman, are coming from is they don’t want to pay money for a game they’re not going to like.
Well, that’s simple, there is no game yet, to like or dislike, so if that’s your criteria for spending money, don’t spend any.
SD aren’t asking you to pay money to play a game, they’re asking you to pay for the chance to help them make a game.
If you’re OK with spending some money in the hope it’ll turn into something you like, you have a choice between paying to get into Alpha, where lots of things can and do change, or waiting for Beta, where you’ll pay less but get less influence as a result. It’s your choice.
At this stage of development there is nothing more SD could tell you, because there’s nothing else that’s relevant or that isn’t subject to change anyway.
No I’m coming from a kick starter environment where you pay cash for something you might not like. You’re putting trust in the dev team with your backing support. I was just annoyed that all of this time has gone by since my support with only 1 short video and 1 vague update by Paul. All I was asking for were updates. In this thread I stated I completely understand not getting acess to the closed alpha, I didn’t pay to get in, fine. I was just miffed that for someone who has faith in the dev team to throw some money at them, I was being left in the dark on all development. Today that was changed with an email from SD.

Based on the footage I just saw, there’s plenty SD can show the veteran/elite backers. Everything looks great!

Precisely, anyone who wants to pay for this game so they can get better at it or play it before everyone else are barking up the wrong tree. You are paying to help create a game.
The reason I have signed up to be in closed beta is so I can help improve the game and give ideas. Hopefully by that time it wont be too late to change anything big.
Can someone help me pin point when this thread went from wanting more info about the game to wanting to play the closed alpha game? Skletcher states he wants more info before he drops any money. Now he could be completely misinformed by not knowing the game will eventually be free to play but that’s an assumption I’m willing to take in this instance.
Throughout my posts in this thread I’ve sympathized with Skletcher in their lack of communication anything to any of the backers of the project. I’m fully aware my $30 doesn’t get me into the closed alpha of development.
As it turns out, Splash Damage has heard my cries on the forum and either through my influence (hah unlikely) or sheer coincidence, have given access to Elite and Veteran to their DB Video Updates closed alpha subforum. This is exactly the kind of info I was talking about being shared across to the people who are actually funding the game. At no time did anyone in this thread ask to play the Alpha who didn’t support at the legendary or above status.
on a somewhat sidenote rant, i’ve noticed this forum takes a lot of posts out of context and jumps to a lot of conclusions about topics. This isn’t the first time I’ve caught myself having to write out an explanation of myself feeling like a lawyer drafting a contract to make sure I cover all grounds and loop holes where someone might become confused. I hope this reply is bullet proof enough that doesn’t confuse anyone into thinking I feel entitled to an aspect of splash damage that I didn’t pay for or anything like that.
washew, that was long winded. thanks again to Splash Damage for finally releasing more info/videos to the elite/veteran supporters. much appreciated, keep up the great work!
Those videos were planned for possible public release, but yea it was a good idea for them to share them with elite/vet owners so they get a sneak peak to appease the anticipation.
Daaammmn I hate the wording of “asking” for money… it will be a play for free title so its really up to whoever wants to pay for early access to pay. SD will release more info over time. I paid because I wanted to support the game, not because SD forced me or asked me to
