Give the consoles some love!

(JNDK22) #1

I know Quake Wars is coming to the PC but what about the 360? The xbox 360…We all know that the PC will be superior to the 360, have more players and such but come on…throw us console guys a freakin bone over here so we can have our share of Quake Wars too! Does anyone know if its coming to consoles?

(Isabel Lucas) #2

No but I’d be very surprised if it didn’t. Most consoles are nothing more than cut down PC’s inside these days so games tend not to take much work in conversion.

(The Pope) #3

I hope not. I’ve yet to see a game get better after going multiplatform.

(JNDK22) #4

If it does come to consoles never fear you PC guys always get the better version lol

(Joe999) #5

i have my concerns regarding the price, because does QW then come with an xbox live membership? the game would cost 70 euro, xbox live is how much? you need to get xbox live because you couldn’t play the game otherwise.

(Svanire) #6

The only problem I get with games going multiplatform is when they’re dual developed.

(The Pope) #7

True, but I’ve seen going console ruin so many great games that it will always make me suspicious. I would have nothing against a console spinoff title, but trying to make a game that works on such different control systems almost always results in a worse game. Giving the game to some other devs so that they can optimize and rebalance it could be good.

Dosent the 360 ‘Live Anywhere’ thing mean you’ll be able to play agianst PC players etc?

(B0rsuk) #9

Consider this: consoles are not exactly moddable, right ? So once someone releases a very popular mod (like etpro is for W:ET) you may find yourself left on ince.
Not to mention all the mods you are going to miss. And the game would basically require keyboard+mouse (especially mouse) to be playable. Some consoles are able to to use such devices, but players still need to buy them.

(ayatollah) #10

Yeah but that isn’t implemented yet.

Through Live Anywhere it will be able to make a patch on the PC and if a server has this patch it could easily be downloaded to 360, along with maps, etc.

I vote for no console conversion, PC all teh way! Unless yous fancy a bit of Wii action!

Fps on console is like sex with a 300pounds lady. You gota learn to like it, but it will never be the same.

not the PS3. having listened to an interview with the carmack he talks about how the multi processors recive differnt complilers etc making it a realy pain to develop for so this could damage the number of conversions of games to PS3 owing to the complexity

glad the wii doent have all the fancy processing power of the new consoles so games wont be converted onto that and it can have new titles built especialy for the cool controls it will rock.

(ParanoiD) #13

Id say PC exclusive. There are so many titles out exclusive for consoles (think of the long wait for GTA SA, Gran Tourismo, Long wait for Halo etc etc.) This si what is likely killing PC gaming, I would like to see all ppl need to buy a decent PC for the latest PC exclusive game :).

(ToonarmY) #14

I hope it doesnt go to consoles.
1 Consoles suck, Pc far superior
2 When spread across pc and consoles it tends to bring the game down
3 Why want it on console when your posting on here with your pc?
4 Thos beefy control pads are pants. Mouse wooo

(jjpron) #15

console players == cheating noobs.
pausing their games and whatnot.

Besides, you can just upgrade your computer to Vista, and play halo 2 and 3 on that. Then you can pretend that that’s a console that plays QW.

(ParanoiD) #16

And whith the build in Media Center you wont miss a thing. Add a gamepad and tyour PC is even more like an console, but then just better

Yes, but that is only for official patches and the like… not user made content. MS would never allow ET Pro to be downloadable to the 360.

(Shanks) #18

IIRC Microsoft said before the launch of the 360 that you could create and distribute content via live. They even used a Tony Hawk game as an example. Are you telling us that this no longer exists?

BTW, why wouldn’t MS allow it? It increases the playability of the game which draws in more players, which could possibly mean more console sales and a bigger slice of the market share. Oh, but MS wouldn’t want that!

(Zyklon) #19

Maybe they’ll only allow content that was created with official tools to be downloadable?

Well you seem to forget that they certainly want their customers to stop playing the game at some point so the latter can buy a new game, resulting in more cash.
Also, they may also fear that the modded game could surpass a new game in quality, and that new game would sell worse than the first one. Ever wondered why EA did limit mods that much in Bf2 (yay, again that game!)?

Tony Hawk downloads are parks made within the game, with the game assets. Controlled assets = nothing racist, porn, or other objectionable material. You can’t add walls with naked women graffiti on the 360… but you probably could on the PC version. Did they say you can create and distribute PC generated content in particular?

Remember how GTA:SA got recalled when they changed the rating due to the “hot coffee” mod? MS might well be taking the safe route and not allowing PC generated content for the 360. Say someone makes a nude mod of Halo with using the Master Chiefs wang to club people… crazy politicians would be all over that crying foul if they found their kid playing it on the 360. Might that type of situation end up in a recall of Halo and the release of the new R rated version which hurts sales because kids cant buy it? Sure its a far-fetched scenario, but there are some crazy people out there who like to blame games for the worlds ills. Before computers and Atari it must have been a peaceful world… oh wait.
