give me one sound reason

(Happymonster) #1

why i should lose a level when retraining all my abilities?

(Nail) #2

because it says you do

(Happymonster) #3

(IG THOMBOW) #4

Sound enough.

LOL

(howie) #5

Probably for the same reason it costs gold to respec in WoW - to artificially extend playing time!

(pinksocking) #6

Truth. Although there are better reasons then that, I just can’t think of any… must sleep

(H3LLS1) #7

it’s only worth it if you, like me, kinda didn’t layout a good set of abilities for your character. i was all over the map on my first guy. now that i redid it…hes more specialized.

(sirius89) #8

mimimi i lose one level mimimi.

Hell,is this a grinder MMO?

You got that level back with 2 hours straight play, maybe with even less.

(tokamak) #9

To keep experience from inflating.

(McAfee) #10

The reason is you?

(obliviondoll) #11

Simple.

It makes people consider their ability selections more carefully. Having a cost associated with changing your abilities is fairly reasonable, imo, and as people have said, it’s not like it’s a huge expense.

(Smokeskin) #12

I think they should make Rank 5 level 19-20 though, so you don’t lose access to abilities and keep playing at Rank 5 servers.

(Jess Alon) #13

I don’t. I think people who know what they want and are thoughtful in planning out their characters should be rewarded for it by not having to drop down a rank. You just mad.

(Shinigami) #14

I think they do it so you dont go respec’ing all willy nilly. They want you to carefully think what skills to choose before you choose them. The level decrease isnt so much as a ‘penalty’ as it is an incentive to get you to try out skills before you go trading them in so fast.

But, since you can’t “try out” abilities for a limited time, most people just avoid the ones that don’t “sound” good without trying them out.

For example, I’ve never tried the ability to throw grenades while running. For all I know, it’s a useful ability that has applications I’ve never thought of, but the XP respec penalty means I’ve never tried it out.

For a more extreme example, look at the Operative. Like many, I’ve disregarded this class and never given it a fair shot. But, if I want to really try it out, I have to respec my level 20 character, which drops me to a 19, and then play for 2 hours to get my 20 back. I’d reallocate my points and try out the new character. If I’m not happy with my new Operative build, I need to respec AGAIN, drop to a level 19 AGAIN, play for another 2 hours and get my old abilities back.

It’s a disincentive to try new abilities. It’s a bad idea. Why penalize someone for customization and experimentation?

Oh, yeah. That’s why.

(Overgear) #16

Lets not forget

“There will be a sellback period where you can trade in an ability for free if you don’t like it”

Instead, we have to sell everything back and drop to level 19.

(Szakalot) #17

@Frankie

your argument can be used in the same fashion to remove any kind of unlockables and provide all of the content from the start.

Some people need the carrot ‘just’ within reach.

(Happymonster) #18

i havent seen any good reason so far

-the carrot argument i can understand in wow because spending more time in wow means spending more cash, u dont do that in brink
-it discourages testing skills/setups so u cant carefully make a setup, without going through a tedious grind every time u want to change 1 skill
-u already have to level to 20 so its not that u get everything from the start and even at lvl 20 u only get 20 points so u cant use everything at the same time

anyone else?

(TheBIG_Lebowski) #19

ZING! Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

(BiigDaddyDellta) #20

Because every restatable game in history has a penalty maybe?
