GF wants to play DB but is turned off by the harassment she gets when playing.

The thing is also, competitive games are filled with competitive people. They have little tolerance for bad players. It doesn’t matter what game it is. Regardless what the issue is, it’s not unique to Dirty Bomb, and the devs won’t be able to fix it.

(Hibbsan) #22

How in the world do they know that she is female to begin with? i highly doubt they are harassing her because she is a female. it’s the internet… You can try and play whatever online game you want, there is always going to be some jerk that starts harassing you no matter what you do. if she can’t handle it, she shouldn’t be playing online games, simple as that.

Great clans you should join are.

They are funny and friendly.

Confusing TS3, but you’ll get the hang of it. Lots of players to chat and play with. They also do custom pugs.

This is the one I’m currently in. TS3, isn’t that active, but there is always a point where multiple or one person is on the TS3, personally I would be on there all day but due to horrible ping I don’t.

Yeah, the only time people ever come up and try to subtly or not-so-subtly find out genders on the internet is if there’s lots of interaction already happening. MMOs are a good example.
From personal experience, plenty people will assume a specific gender based on hunches, but if actually catching themselves using pronounes, correct themselves “She. Or he, idk”. I’ve even seen in happen in Dirty Bomb once lately. Only ever had two people go and assume I was a girl without any proper introduction first, and honestly, they were probably bisexual or really didn’t care, based on what they said before I blocked them.

I know this sounds very wrong. But when I’m playing DB, and talking to my teammates. I would instinctively call them a boy, girl based on the Merc they are. Or just in all a boy since I haven’t seen a lot of girls on DB. I know you guys are going to punch the hell out of me for saying it.

(Ctrix) #26

Actually that’s the behaviour I noticed on most peoples. In any game really, but in MMOs more specifically. Don’t feel bad, it’s the natural reaction if you’re not consciously separating the player from his appearance.
Really, I think it’s the way you should use pronouns. If people play a female character, they picked it over the male one, so there’s really no reason not to if you don’t have a better reason.
Doesn’t really work in Dirty Bomb, but then there’s little reasons to use pronouns in the first place.

Welcome to the internet.

How is she getting harassed and what about?

(uWotm8-AU) #29

You both need thicker skin tbh.

Sticks and stones and all that.

It’s an online game, SD or Nexon have no control whatsoever about what people say.

In saying that, yes some people are immature twats. Best just to avoid.

(Eox) #30

She should find some friends to play with IMO. Like this, even if there’s some dicks ready to open the bag of trash they got for mouth, she can at least count on those few people to have fun, and there will also be less bad mouthed players joining the server as well since you have already filled a part of the server with friends. I try to always get some friends to play with myself, because it really gives you confidence and those also help you if you get picked on and harassed in game.

Also, not playing in MM may help. From my own experience, people are much more inclined to trashtalk in MM.

(Faraleth) #31
She shouldn’t have to play differently than anyone else. If she likes the game mode she should be able to play it without constant harassment.

Her name was girly but now its more unisex. But her voice obviously isn’t. She doesn’t voice chat anymore because of it.

Not going to do anything to change her gameplay based on a few dickwaddlers. She chats often using in game chat because her voice gives all these kids hard ons.

She deserves respect for being a player like everyone else and shouldn’t be judged or commented negatively towards just based on her gender.
Oh I completely agree, and very right you are. The suggestion was only because everyone in Execution seems to be far more toxic than other game-modes. I’ve stopped playing other games due to online harassment and toxicity - sure, it’s not right, but sadly people online are real dicks sometimes. :frowning:

Like I said, maybe the best thing I can suggest is try and find an online community to play with? ^.^ Nothing beats playing with awesome people  I tend to do this as much as I can, haha.

(Jostabeere) #32

Why does your girlfriend care about what some random anons tell her in an online game?
If she’s bad, she’s bad. Noone was a pro in his early hours, don’t need to feel bad about it.

(immenseWalnut) #33
Hey guys,

My gf really enjoys DB but says literally every time she has played she’s had to put up with offensive statements and name calling etc. and its making her want to quit. :frowning:

What can we do about it?

-Ass
Realise that sticks and stones can break your bones but names can never hurt you?

In my experience, the only people that get upset by being called names are the ones that are insecure to begin with, raise your self-esteem and nothing anyone can say will ever bother you ever again (or in this case your girlfriend).

That is some good advice for life in general, not just for gaming.

No, do feel bad about it. Then use that to get good.

Just what the doctor ordered

(SereneFlight) #35

Well, as long she doesn’t use voice chat and won’t say she’s a gurl, she should be just fine.
…or find some mature people to play with her.

…even tho to be honest… everybody gets harassed online so I could say that man up and ignore all the shit trolls throw.

(Ctrix) #36

People who walk around telling everyone over general chat they’re a girl are either trolling or really need some attention.
I’ve seen it happen too. It’s extremely facepalm worthy. Any replies you get for that will be appropriate.

(Runeforce) #37

I recommend muting text and voice of the people doing it.

You could also report it. It is related to the same type of harassment as racism.

(TheAcidpiss) #38

its great when you meet a really good female player in these types of game and they just dominate, a lot of males just cant believe that a female is kicking their ass (If I could bottle their rage I could make a fucking nuclear bomb with it!)

best lols

(Jostabeere) #39

Well, normally girls don’t get harrassed because of simple voicechatting.

(capriRocket) #40

She chats often using in game chat because her voice gives all these kids hard ons.

theres your problem, your gf seeks for attention, she gets it but then complains.
you need to tell her that in the online gaming world she will not find charming men, she will find insulting virgins.

once she stops outing herself ingame she will be fine and able to enjoy the game like every boy and man.

if she does not look to solve the problem then perhaps shes got an attention deficit, something that may go all the way back to her childhood…
