Getting more video performance

(WiGgLeRiCe) #1

I have found a way to get more noticeable video performance out of the onboard video memory. Just follow the following:

  • Restart your puter and hold down the F1 button to turn on the Bios Settings.

  • Next Select “Advanced” and go down the list and select "Onboard Video Memory, it will give you a selection of memory amounts, my computer had 1mb and 8mb with 1mb being the default.

  • Select the highest mb amount the list shows , on my puter I selected the 8mb. If your puter has more than 2 selections select the highest and if it gives you problems then re-enter the bios settings and select the next lowest.

  • Last not but least go to exit and click on “Exit Saving Changes”

This has eliminated alot of the slowdown and lag my ET game goes through and I was able to select a higher graphics setting without slowing down the game or PC . I found alot of speed improvements through out my computer changing this. Give this a try and see if it helps you guys. Another cool thing about the Bios Settings is if you go to “Power” and select “Hardware Monitor” , it will tell you what temperature your puter is running at and the rpms of both puter and cpu fans. Great way to check to see if your fans are running without having to take your puter apart.

the normal default to enter BIOS is the Delete key it depends on the motherboard

Puter Dude! What drugs are you on? :eek2:

I would do that if I had a crappy IBM aptiva or something.

Luckily I dont.

I guess that it’s an IBM computer with build in Graphics card.

There is a better way to get more performance…

Buy a Radeon 9600 XT or better og Geforce FX 5700 Ultra or better.

er I advise against anyone fiddling in their BIOS unless they know what they are doing*, else much lack of hilarity and a trip to the pc repair shop often ensues.

*having a look while taking care not to change anything, and then going to research it is a different matter, although if not broke = dont fix.

Well, i don’t really need to know cause i don’t use it, got good fps, but is this safe? Or does it “burn” you’re video card?

I had it in effect for a year and no probs , the onboard video card gets part of it’s mem from the ram so I guess it just steals a little more ram for the video memory. Here’s my specs if you were wondering :

Hewlet Packard Pavillion 533w
2000 mhz Celeron
256 mb DDR ram soon to be 512
64 mb video
60 gb harddrive

still saving for a better video card but that’s still a long way off
