Could just as easily be PC footage using a controller.
Get SMART With New Brink Video
watching the video now for the 4th or 5th time im wondering how the challenges work.
-do you play 1on1 against bots on smaller, more deathmatch/duel style maps?
-can you play against other people to complete challenges?
-do you have to play on your own to complete challenges or is it 2on2/3on3 and so on?
what else can you tell us about the challenges? c’mon badman, something official please.
From what I gather it seems that Challenges are meant to be a SP endeavor where one can unlock all the different gun attachments and clothing selections. From what I’ve read, and what I’ve seen the Challenges are meant for the player to use to get used to gameplay mechanics and work on their skill and as a reward for working on one’s skill you get gun goodies and stuff for your toon.
I may be only touching the tip of the iceberg on this but from my own research that seems to be the case.

Afaik challenges are bascially tutorials for stuff like SMART. But there will be different difficulty levels that you have to beat to unlock weapons/weapon attachments. You also get XP while doing Challenges just like you would when playing normally.
Also since they bring attention to HP bars looking at the videos again it looks like the heavy guys get bigger bars rather than pips tacked on.

Challenges unlock guns and attachments. XP Levels unlock clothing/personal customizations.
I knew I was confusing one aspect of it. Thanks for clearing it up, I would edit my own comment but it would make this comment obsolete. Thanks for clearing that up though Whyd
Those mines >:= (
I hope they don’t do too much damage or I will rage very much.
Given that operatives are basically told where the mines are as a mission, its not a big deal.
that would be a real pitty. i hope you are wrong and that the challenges are in fact not only singleplayer. few things why i believe that is…
-brink wants to combine sp and mp experiences.
-theres no word in that video about who against you are playing in any of the game modes. so i guess, and hope, challenges can be played with bots AND with/against real people. just like campaign and freeplay.
-making such a huge part of the game where you earn your weapons/upgrades like a tutorial against only bots would be a waste i cant even describe in words.
i mean, dont you see? from those few seconds i saw in the video, and i realize i actually heard the first time about challenges in this vid, i come to the conclusion that it must be some sort of duel mode.
take it a step further and you got yourself deathmatch or even team deathmatch that a lot of those (sry) cod kiddies are looking forward to. and all this combined in one game, hah. from a design perspective its totally plausible and relatively easy to achieve. objective based maps are much harder to design than a deathmatch map for example.
so, its basicly 2 games in one. the objective, team based (campaign) mode and a 1on1/ffa/whatever (challenge) mode.
i hope thats not all speculation.
Great video!
The logo/ opening animation is iconic and totally awesome!
The voice is very nice, and makes me think about kissing.
The picture in picture is very slick.
The zoom and pause and highlight are used to great effect so that we don’t have to go through the vid frame by frame to figure out what they are talking about or what we are looking at.
TONS of info!
Well done! :stroggtapir: :stroggtapir: :stroggtapir: :stroggtapir:
Now, as for the challenges, these are essential and it is great that SD is forcing the gamer to complete them in order to weapon up. There has never been movement in FPS games like SD is offering in Brink, and SD needs to force everyone to try it and master it to a certain extent. Nothing worse than getting close to the end of the mission and discovering that half your team can’t even use SMART to get to the second level and complete the objective. DICE could take a note or two on this. They need a helicopter training mode, without the completion of which, one shouldn’t be allowed to get in the pilot’s seat.
Finally, and somewhat OT, I want to commend SD on sticking to their guns as regards hiding the K/D stats. My friends have been playing the Gears 3 beta for two weeks straight, and while Epic has finally “fixed” the network code (with a lot of smoke and mirrors including removing physics from the bullets), they have made the K/D ratio stat the most prominent stat on the screen. Of course, what could have become one of the most tactical teamwork oriented games out there, has become a place where gamers are literally running past, or climbing over other incapped teammates to “steal kills”. It is an embarrassing design choice, and a tragedy for gamers who want to play as a team, even with friends! The stat is just too powerful. Nobody wants a low K/D. It took brass balls, but if SD wants gamers to play together, then it was 100 percent necessary (at least on the Xbox, anyway).
Cheers! Looking forward to more Get Smart.
P.S. I called it!
It is possible that we can expect to see the following videos released over the next two weeks:
Intro (aka The Basics)
Customization
Classes
Objectives
SMART
HUD
Incapacitation
The trailer music is great! Anybody happen to have an mp3 dl?:magicpony:
The shown gamepad controls though give me terrible, terrible feelings:tongue: I wonder if moving will feel “good” in the PC version.
Tier 1 and 2 challenges can be played solo or 2 person co-op, tier 3 challenges are played solo
The challenges are seperate from the actual game
Nail, are you sure, I thought it was the opposite that Tier 1 and 2 challenges are solo and Tier 3 is up to 4 person co-op?
I just dont understand why they didnt mentioned/hightlighted the sentry gun in engeneer segment
…that is indeed a good idea…
Okay I’ll stop, thanks for the kind words!
hmz my concern now is the music .x it´s not as apealing as other big titles over there .<
