Get SMART With New Brink Video

(Mustkunstn1k) #1

A new series called “Get SMART” that introduce the game mechanics. These will also serve as the in-game tutorials (at least you can watch them in the menu).

Basics:

Objectives

General Gameplay

It seems like there will be new episode every day. Very awesome, can’t wait for more. This might just hold me off for the 2 weeks until release.

yes, cool. but what’s the point of medics healing ability if players health goes from 10% to 100% in 2 seconds ?
Unless it was sped up for this presentation…

Aww I hoped for something rivalling Aperture Science blips.

The music is chilling though. Nice mixture of post and prog ambient.

A new story entry has been added:
[drupal=786]Get SMART With New Brink Video[/drupal]

As Brink prepares for its release by sitting organised in a warehouse, we’ve got a brand-new series of videos hitting the internet to help prepare you for the battle for the Ark. They’re cleverly titled “Get SMART”, and the first installment covering the basics is available for watching now.
You can catch the video via the embed below or in splendiferous HD over in the Splash Damage YouTube channel.

This is definitely what I have wanted to see from the videos. And I’m glad we are getting more.

PS: Are these in the actual game? Like as a tutorial in the menu… I’m guessing that this along with other episodes will be under that “Dossier”.

I’m guessing it was sped up for the sake of the video, and isn’t actually that fast. Though I like how you took it as gospel before actually getting confirmation 1st… nice.

It’s not an unreasonable guess.

(Angrim) #8

That was my first thought as well. Honestly considering the way things were presented in this video (the action bar pips regeneration being another example) it would be far fetched to assume that is the standard health regeneration time.

(badman) #9

If you watch carefully, you can see the mission timelimit change in between the guy taking damage and healing due to a cut. Being healed by a Medic also makes your health bar longer, so there’s an added bonus there as well. In the heat of battle, a Medic keeping people healed makes all the difference, so healing’s far from pointless.

You guess correctly.

(H0RSE) #10

So healing and boosting health are essentially one in the same?

(badman) #11

Functionally, yes, though you can buff teammates that have full health, in which case they get an additional health bar segment.

(SebaSOFT) #12

@badman, you mean that BRINK is GOLD???

(LyndonL) #13

So if someone were to have half health, and as a medic you “heal” them it would take one action and take one pip, and then to buff their health would be a second action and a second pip?

(H0RSE) #14

So in order to get the “full effect” (or bonus effect) of a health boost, it must be applied to a player with full health?

Hmmm, hidden spottable mines as in W:ET. I’m not sure I like them like that anymore.

(Mustkunstn1k) #17

They definitely created some tence moments.

PS: At first I was confused at the Brink logo on the guy the medic was reviving (also the mines and so on). Now I realise that it is to hide the actual button so this video would fit for every platform.

This is a great video.
