Get SMART with Brink's Objectives

(system) #21

OMG!!! The horror!!!

(Jess Alon) #22

Because once you go into iron sight you can never back out of it ever.

I like the decision they’ve taken where sprinting will break you our of IS instantly. I hate games where I’m stuck in IS, start getting hit, try and sprint but cant unless I hit the button to retract it. I think that alone will help keep the pace up.
I use ironsights all-the-time playing Bad Company 2 and intensely dislike campers/camping. My interest in objective-based gameplay is one of the biggest appeals of Brink.

The new objectives video really helped me decide what character builds to do first.

Heavy: Engineer + Operative
Heavy: Medic + Assault
Medium: Assault + Medic/Engineer
Light: Operative + Engineer
(I favor heavier and non-operative builds, so this last one kills two birds with one stone, particularly in case some of the challenges favor particular body types. Plus, as a light engineer it will be fun to see the unexpected places where I can place a turret.)
Light engineer might actually be worth a try simply for being able to plant turrets in a greater variety of positions. In addition, the harder to reach places for your turrets will likely be less accessible for the enemy to get to them as well, which means they are easier to guard with a mine.

it’s been a very long time since i went shooting, but i remember this one time i was shooting at a target. and i did this thing…aiming i think it was called! anyway, i aimed the rifle. i think maybe I closed both eyes after staring at the target-no wait, i closed one eye! no, that’s not it. well, i don’t know what i did. oh yeah! i looked down along the rifle. well, i pointed it towards the target first, then i looked down the rifle. the rifle had these thingies coming off of it…kinda like little prongs. prongs? is that the right word? hm…maybe notches fit better. spikes? widgets? i don’t know what they are. i’m sure there’s a term for it. anyway, if you aligned these certain thingamajigs, they could…well they did absolutely nothing for your aim. i’m pretty sure nobody uses it anymore. in fact, i have a friend in the marines and he says they train you to run backwards as fast as you can and point your gun over your shoulder now. they also give you a tiny little mirror that hangs out from your helmet, well, if you get the good helmets. my friends says it really improves aiming for long distance shots. iron sights are outdated now-IRON SIGHTS! that’s what they are! yeah, nobody uses those anymore. they found that when you use iron sights your feed suddenly get stuck and your only want is to pitch a tent. so yeah, that’s why iron sights are so stupid in games. you should just be able to fire from the hip, and have a button to turn around and shoot behind you(tiny mirror would be an unlock of course. level 100 prerequisite). sound good?

If H0RSE is right, then these are the videos they have:

Intro (aka The Basics)
Customization
Classes
Objectives
SMART
HUD
Incapacitation

They probably want to release one each day for a week and then there will be one more week until the game is available! By releasing one each day then the game websites will keep posting articles about a new Brink video and it’ll help keep it in the news longer.

I really like these videos!

(DouglasDanger) #27

That sounds good. I wonder what they will do next week.

(A.i) #28

Was it a light that planted the bomb on the gate in this video? (he had cross and a pistol)

(Mustkunstn1k) #29

Lights can plant bombs too…

(A.i) #30

thats not what I meant

(amazinglarry) #31

Agreed.

Also, ET:QW had Ironsights and it didn’t slow the pace down at all. Boom. Win.

It’s Splash Damage. Until they actually make a mediocre game, it’s safe to have high hopes that there’ll be a great balance… they’ve been doing it for too long.

(BuzzNot.V1) #32

now that make sence. last time I went shooting it did not feel right. now i know why, need to shoot from the back more.

(Evil-Doer) #33

Awesome awesome stuff! Keep it up with the series! Getting more and more excited everyday!

QW was mediocre imo.

That’s what I was thinking. I really hope this is old beta footage, cause much of the animations looked unfinished/placeholder quality. I’m not on board with the engineer “spraying” a hack away, but that’s certainly not the worst offender. Then when the soldier was planting the bomb, the fingers were tapping at places that were not even buttons. These kinds of oversights make the game feel unfinished/rushed. This could easily be old footage though, as I’m sure they had to start making these movies a while ago.

Also, it has that really weird gun animation while sprinting. That’s just going to break me out of the engagement every time I sprint :\

(.Chris.) #36

Anyone notice when the guy was ‘transmitting’ the petrol can he performed an animation, when he was downed he kept on performing that animation, looked really strange. The hack objective set-up looks quite interesting, I had my fears when first heard about the remote hacking but considering you have to plant the device first it’s all good.

(dandragon) #37

Ironsights/no ironsights omg. It’s not a crime to aim a little extra once in a while. And while shooting like an army pro with a little mirror would be nice sometimes, you could just pass off the use of sights with the logic that the resistance are untrained freedom fighters and the security are not quite military level either.

Question: we see ironsights and hipfire, what about scopes, dot sights ect ? Like MGS4

(tokamak) #38

Yeah that was pretty spastic, no offence to spastics.

(Ragoo) #39
Cause in ET:QW you only needed Ironsights when shooting at mid distance and you could jump around like a madman while shooting.

People are not concerned about Ironisghts being in the game, they are just concerned that you can only accurately fire a weapon if you use them which would indeed slow down the game a lot and make it more campy and less about movement and dodging, since you can’t really move well when using Ironsights.
From the excessive use of Ironsights in all the videos it sometimes seems they are a necessity. I’m glad SD already confirmed that some of their testers don’t use Ironsights at all and are fine, so weapons will be accurate enough without them. But at the end of the day we only believe what we see, right?

edit: Not a direct answer for you, just clearing things up for all the newer people who come here and are confused about the age old Ironsight discussion.

(Mustang) #40

Not to me, it’s the same animation as the incapped guy at 2:07 and he was previously wielding a weapon
I think it’s just an alternate incap animation
