Get SMART with Brink's Objectives

(Jess Alon) #1

Special thanks to H0RSE for the facebook update.

BTW do you see that it says a NEW video will be up TOMMORROW?! I’m crapping myself in sheer excitement.

(madness) #2

why does the player insist on using ironsights at every possible opportunity ? I thought they were not needed for Brink… the videos sure seem to hint otherwise. Either you are promoting the game wrong or this is another typical slow fps. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Mustkunstn1k) #3

I am not totally sure if we need a new thread every day for the series. :expressionless:
But hey, the more the merrier. Cool video non-the-less.

(system) #4

Hopefully those crap character animations will not be so distracting while playing.

(system) #5

Because it’s played by a console player on his couch, that’s why.

(Jess Alon) #6

You’re just rude.

(St NickelStew) #7

They are not needed. However, they should certainly be helpful, probably to make the weapons a little more accurate when firing using ironsights. Players who favor firing from the hip are more than likely going to want to get a little closer to their opponent before engaging.

(system) #8

Yes, the truth is ugly.

(madness) #9

Yes. I realize that. But people who don’t know much about the game look at these videos and go “oh another camping game”

(St NickelStew) #10

Really?? People think ironsights = camping?
I would never have made that connection, but neither have I ever played a COD game.

(Jess Alon) #11

You should probably stop flaming console users while you’re still not banned.

#12

Good stuff, great to finally see more Brink footage, wonder how many days they are going to be churning these videos out for? lets hope its every day until release

There’s nothing wrong with ironsights as long as its balanced. CoD suffers due to it’s gigantic amount of aim assist and the fact that people can kill you across the map if they ironsight through an SMG. It’s truly the math that jacked up in those games. And the netcode. Which encourages camping. Ironsight has nothing to do with it.

(CapnHowdy21) #14

It is probably habit since most games require it now. Also, I think iron sights will have their use in this game. Especially at long range. I also think there has been some misrepresentation of hipfire. I don’t believe it is just as accurate as ADS, it is just more accurate and viable especially at mid-close range then recent games like call of duty.

(H0RSE) #15

No, I think that’s just what you and a small fraction of the community think.

News Flash: Things change. It is not circa 2000 - many PC FPS games incorporate ironsights now, even if they are considered…::shudders::…“for console.”

Every game cannot be Quake 3 with objectives.

A new story entry has been added:
[drupal=790]Get SMART with Brink’s Objectives[/drupal]

We’ve got another video from Brink’s Get SMART series for you today and it’s all about Objectives. Brink’s objective wheel is covered in this one, as are the intricacies of the main objective types in the game.
You can catch the video via the embed below or in lavish HD over in the Splash Damage YouTube Channel.

Ironsighting slows you down and lowers your FOV. That in turn causes people to camp.

(LyndonL) #19

Or you can run around like normal and only ironsight when you see an enemy in front of you, shoot him, then run around again: like most people do

I use ironsights all-the-time playing Bad Company 2 and intensely dislike campers/camping. My interest in objective-based gameplay is one of the biggest appeals of Brink.

The new objectives video really helped me decide what character builds to do first.

Heavy: Engineer + Operative
Heavy: Medic + Assault
Medium: Assault + Medic/Engineer
Light: Operative + Engineer
(I favor heavier and non-operative builds, so this last one kills two birds with one stone, particularly in case some of the challenges favor particular body types. Plus, as a light engineer it will be fun to see the unexpected places where I can place a turret.)
