Get SMART Series: The HUD [Episode 4]

(tokamak) #61

Hadn’t thought about that. I change my mind.

(system) #62

So no more grenade cooking? This is truly sad, loved it in quake wars.

(tokamak) #63

And I’ll gladly reintroduce myself to the other half.

(Schwarzeis) #64

No… Now you’re lying Toka :stuck_out_tongue:

You must’ve seen atleast one ‘‘PC MASTER RACE’’ propagator, no? :o

(RumRunner) #65

grenade cooking was a universal passive last i checked. the character shown merely didn’t have the passive. and so could not cook the grenade.

(BioSnark) #66

This is where I insert a disappointed comment on the size, positioning and redundancy in the HUD and hope it is adjusted for a closer screen distance.

Because console users are more likely to complain about other people wanting something that isn’t in Brink.

(dommafia) #67
Where did you get that from? Only smug Broodwar elitists were complaining about his, but they were also always complaining that custom hotkeys are newby, useless and basically shouldn’t be allowed.

Most people thought this isn’t useful for high level play but only for the noobs (read this TL thread when timer came out http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=154779). Turns out it’s the other way round, now pros use this all the time and it’s rather useless for noobs cause they have other problems and their timings are not that important.

So yeah, in BRINK knowing the time when you respawn makes it tactically way more complex and interesting.
And I don’t think that it should be a skill to count down the time in your head. That’s just a stupid skill you would have to train. Using the respawn timer to your advantage is challenging enough.
Makes me want to use that old phrase, you got served…yo!

(3Suns) #68

Like the HUD. It has surpassed all my expectations in design and functionality.

(riptide) #69
Well i wouldnt mind a respawn counter that much, as long as there is no equivalent of /kill.
I just want to point out that last I heard… you respawn with the same ammo you had when you died. So that alone will help with the /kill. If it’s even allowed.

(crazyfoolish) #70

Sir, I applaud your positivity. I like the HUD too.

I also like that the mines are very big and quite easy to see. This will mean that they have to be placed strategically and not in the middle of corridors.

why would console users be mad someone wanted something that wasnt in brink?

(Senyin) #72

To me the HUD looks good, I like it.
I turned sound of within 20 seconds of that vid. Made me glad there are no female models.

(Ragoo) #73

And last time someone said this I answered the following: In one of the get SMART videos it’s said that command posts give you ammo so that doesn’t make sense since you respawn at a command post.

And about /kill, I think last time we had a discussion about it someone from SD confirmed that it’s in the game since they understand its value for competitive gaming but it’s not enabled on the standard servers.

I thought there were invisible and Operatives had to spot them? Or is this “spotting” just so you can see them on the minimap?

(GlobalWar) #74

Same here

(amazinglarry) #75

True, but he changed his mind. Maybe you will too?

As an aside, it took way too much effort to embed those quotes.

(GlobalWar) #76

I understand the reason why Toka changed his mind but I stick to it.

The timed cap is something I really hate (if it’s used against me). To often I tried to defend a flag (first one in Oasis) when a dude just rushed in the room doing a crazy timed jump to the flag to let the rest of his team spawn all around me…

(BioSnark) #77

Medics, at the very least, should see spawn wave timers so they know if they should bother to try to get to someone relatively far off and not have that person tap while they’re enroute.

I’m not sure. All I can offer is my impression. Can’t offer insight into motivation… I could speculate but you might find it offensive.

(Linsolv) #78

I hadn’t considered that. Before, I thought the idea was stupid and people were being childish demanding it, but I have to give a qualified agreement after this point here. I’d like to see it as a low-level Medic ability.

(dandragon) #79

RESPAWN: There are some good points here on both sides. Many good ones like the idea of using the timer for quick rush timing, or for a medics choice on who to revive. It seems that most people would like to see it on the hud, but there is debate as to who has it or when they have it. The big question here is can this be balanced to satisfy most. The best idea so far is -

I’d like to see it as a low-level Medic ability.

Maybe with teamwork some medics can run strategy or help coordinate the attack.
PS3- Thats me

(dandragon) #80

Never had a chance with pc gaming on this level. my old home was 22k connection try pvp at that level. There are some consHoles out there but there are also console players worth a match.
