I think I want FF on because you’re gonna piss a lot of people off.

I could be wrong but isn’t this the way Covert Ops worked in the previous ET iterations? Shooting at them didn’t reveal their disguise.

The only ways to recognize them is if a teammate was dead but next to you ‘somehow’… or you saw yourself, or their health bar was a bit ‘spotty’.

Or of course, a ranked up Field Ops would notice them too…

Either way, the most reliable way was to be on the lookout for a teammate acting suspicious, and checking with a nice quick shot, which would normally send unskilled Covert Ops into a panic, causing them to fire back and thus revealing etc.

Enemy disguise mechanic kind of scares me though. The ONLY way of knowing is to shoot them? Can’t even imagine how many horrible situations will be created with FF on.[/QUOTE]
Judging from what she said, FF is off by default. Otherwise wasted bullets would be the least of your concern if it wasnt an operative you shot.
If shooting them is the only way of detection then FF off is going to be a very attractive option for many server admins.

However, with voice enabled, spychecking shouldnt really be a problem. I guess it will depend a lot on how well you team is communicating.

So for me, FF and Voice on.

Look at the feet of the operative(s) starting from around the 3:53 mark in the video, doesn’t that dust effect look pretty… ****ty? :l

Maybe it’s just me, but I think it looks whack, in a bad way

And now we know that Operatives always sees mines, even when they’re not close, this alongside with the ability to detonate them by shooting them makes mines somewhat useless in my eyes, once again… Maybe that’s just me

Anyways… Thanks for the videos, Splash Damage! Appreciate it

@ Schwarzeis

It looks fine to me. Thats the last thing you will be looking at in Brink anyways.

(amazinglarry) #27

The difference is, you have to DEPEND on your Operatives to actually spot the mines, otherwise the only way you’ll be detonating them is with your body.

Yeah, I know… I wont stare and oogle at other players feet, but damn, when he ran past them at a distance I couldn’t help to notice the red dust following him for a while looking crappy

It’s a thing I can live with, and it’s probably too late now unless they have fixed/changed that already, these videos are pretty old (new to us, but they were made some time ago for some gaming conference, like E3 or what it now was)

(Schwarzeis) #29

I will detonate them with my whole body

Yeah… But the way I see it then is that at first mines will be somewhat good, since people aint warm in the clothes yet, then when people start to know everything or a good chunk of it they will be useless, since they will always be auto-spotted

I think it would be better if Operatives´ just saw them when they were close, but it’s too late to change that now, since the game is practically out in the stores by now, atleast in the US

Thats pretty cool that if you step on an enemy mine that it wont explode until you step off of it. Knowing my luck, ill be standing on one waiting for someone to come disarm it, and some kid will slide tackle me offa it and blow me up. Good times.

Its also pretty cool that you actually have to Incap the Operative to have their disguise removed. So you will never know unless you actually incap the guy. Kind of like the old witch finding way. She drowns, she was human, she floats, shes a witch and we kill her anyway.

Though Matthias did point out to me that the Operative didn’t have a blue glow around him to say that you could buff that character. So thats an easier way to “spycheck” is if you can buff them or not. Instead of wasting bullets.

In etqw, you shoot them in the foot to do minimal damage. If the indicators turn red, you keep shooting. If its green, you leave them alone.

As for the video itself, the emp nade looked really cool but it seems it effects players as well as turrets. Im guessing it might prevent players from doing class actions? Can someone from sd confirm? kthxbi ^___-

I like the fact there wont be any spawn camping.

(RobertJSullivan) #33

Dang it, I thought that there would be a customisation Get SMART vid :p.

(Ragoo) #34

I’m relieved that mines are the way they are for now. Operatives making them visible and being able to shoot them seems fair, also engineers being able to disarm them if you step on them is a nice gimmick

Still hope they don’t do too much damage when you step on them, but then again unless they one-hit you, there is health regen. So they just slow you down or block your path either way

(r3fleX) #35

Yea that always worked fine, but another way which was clear in ETQW was just hearing the opposition in disguise… often strogg’s made a grunting noise as they ran in disguise, and GDF had different footsteps which was the easiest way for me to spot an enemy in disguise. Would be cool to have that in Brink aswell.

So you cannot see mines at all unless you are an operative?! i do hope you are able to hear them and also if you can avoid mines by running around a corner where the wall would block all the damage or running over them at speed would reduce the damage, like you could do in ETQW.

I believe they make you get downed, as in you will have to be revived by a Medic

(Mustkunstn1k) #37

Final? Noooo!

PS: What if my teammate steps on a mine and I shoot it from far away? evil

(SebaSOFT) #38

Sliding into a mine will make some LOL moments…

(Schwarzeis) #39

‘‘FUUCK YEEEAAH! HERE COMES THE - boom MEDIC!’’

(H8tz) #40

While we are doing ETQW nerd talk: disguised enemies also had visiual differeneces regarding their equipment. A disguised medic for example had no defibrillator on him
