Yeah, it was only used by ~100% of the players, are we talking about the same thing ?
Gameplay Demos of Brink to be Shown on IGN, G4TV, GameTrailers TV
No strafing= bad thing? Sure it has been in the previous games, but is it really necessary? Strafing was already almost non-existent in QW, giving you only a slight increase in speed.
Corpse you know how I taught people in TAW how to strafe jump and trickjump, How I made the manuals for testing and the billy goat badge.
I can assure you that strafe jumping gives you more than a slight increase in speed. On the Salvage strafe jump trial there is a substantial increase in speed. In fact all the jumps including circle and ramp jumps and dive jumps through windows give you a substantial advantage. This has been proven with the times fromt he time trials.
Strafe jumping Time Trial Times from point A - B
sprinting with Assualt rifle = 60seconds
Average time for people who pass 50-52seconds
sprinting with pistol/knife = 58seconds
Qucikest time possible strafe jumping with pistol/knife 46seconds
I tested this extensively when we created the test for TAW members to take. As you can see between the two bold ones, there is an increase in speed of around 10-12 seconds depending on the person. AnthonyDa is correct it was widely used in ETQW.
Well couldn’t find any live footage from the G4TV link at 00:30, nothing on twitter either
I’d quite like to see the all new gameplay footage badman mentioned
If anyone has some handy links please share
You will still be able to get from point A to point B in “the fastest time possible.” People will discover what methods or paths work best, using all the new techniques available (wall-hop, slide, vault, etc.) Players will discover how to string these together to be most efficient. Also, your example for strafejumping times really means little here, since Brink will have body types, so not everybody will be moving the same, unlike in ET and QW.
Strafe jumping just seemed like a technique player used because their wasn’t a “proper” navigation system in place - SMART seems to remove the need for “second hand” navigation tactics, so you can actually interact with the environment and move how you want.
Oh come on now, don’t act like the removal of strafe jumping is new info; we’ve known about SMART replacing it for well over a year. I’m fed up with posters incapable of accepting change and adaptability derailing every single topic on this forum. If your opinion doesn’t contribute to the topic at hand, for the love of God keep it to yourself.
Footage for G4, has the same gameplay footage as the IGN footage, may or may not have new info (I have no sound).
sound works for me, looking very sweet, nice to see a new level!
Also just found these gamespot vid links:
I must admit I’ve been a bit underwhelmed with the footage I’ve seen so far from E3
… The first two vids from G4 and IGN have been a bit all over the place. Were they both footage of the journos playing the game? Because they didn’t look like they had much of a clue what they were doing…
I’d love for a few more clips like the 3 Container City clips to be released to at least soften the blow of the delayed release date.
Here’s hoping Thursday’s GameTrailers clip is more revealing…
I’m talking about basic strafejumping here. And in QW it just wasn’t that big of a deal as it used to be in games like Wolf:ET.
Of course, there are certain locations where you can gain significant time bonuses by using strafing and trickjumping. I don’t deny that.
And I also realize that strafejumping is widely used in QW. I do it myself as well.
Why? Well, since it’s the mechanic in the game to get around quicker, even if it is just a little. If something give you an advantage you use it, strafing in QW gives you an advantage, so ppl use it.
That does not mean this mechanic has to be in every single game. Strafing will probably be replaced in Brink by the whole manual movement stuff, which also takes some expertise and knowledge, just as strafing does, only in another way.
See HORSE’s post, that pretty much sums that up.
So my point is still valid: Is it really a bad thing when a game does not have strafejumping, even when it’s replaced by another mechanic?
And I appreciate the work you did on the manuals and badges you did in TAW, Jamieson.
It helps ppl to get more out of QW. But in the end of the day, they only apply to QW.
And let’s now get back to scavaging more footage of Brink @ E3.
I feel I’m missing a lot.
please put up a link for the videos!!!
Yes i would love more like the container city ones
Dude, it’s on the front page, and Reanimator posted it just before:
The IGN one I only caught half of it on the live feed.
The GameSpot video posted above by CleaverDancer didn’t really show much more than the G4TV one.

http://files.g4tv.com/videoDB/046/698/video46698/e32010_live_0616_brink_flvhd.flv (remove ‘hd’ if you want standard def).
Now hurry up IGN and post your blasted video!
every Brink Video from E3 2010 is shown in our Channel:
have a look
Even the Brink Live Demo is uploaded.
I’m glad with anything now.
A shame to see the ‘1 up!!1’ stuff pop up over people’s heads. This kind of information actually helps you in-combat which is a wrong thing. It can notify you of people through accidental actions.
