gamelag/fpsdrops in ET

(Scorpion(EO)) #1

Hey guys, I really hope someone can help me out here.

I’m playing with these fps/gamelag for a few months, did almost everything to get rid off it, but I just can’t: HELP!!!

first my specs before you start giving advice:

AMD2400+
1 gig ram
ATI 9800 with the newest Omega drivers (and overclocked) (had an ati 9500 before, but same problems)
7200 rpm HD of 40 GB

Win xp sp2, directx 9

So… I really got the latest software, tried installing, reinstalling, completely whiping my hd, videosettings, ingame commands…but know I really don’t now what to do anymore.

At the loading screen I first load a map, then my sceen flickers and starts loading it again. Then ingame it hangs for a sec before it starts…

My fps just jumps down to 30/20 sometimes and sometimes real bumpy. For instance…if someone jumps around the corner it takes sometime before I can see him…then he alreadu is shooting at me, then it takes some time for me to move. Looks like I have a sec delay on that one. Rather get myself drunk and play this game normal, then I have some fun.

Now I’m just frustrated all over, because I can do so much better!!!

I really hope you can help me out!!!

Are you saying that your game freezes momentarily? My first thought is that your overclocked video-card is overheating. My second thought is that an Athlon 2400 isn’t all that fast for a Q3A-based game like ET. I’ve done a lot of testing and found that the CPU is usually the limiting factor in RTCW and ET. I’d suggest uninstalling the Omega driver and installing the latest official Catalyst 4.12 (which has new optimizations for OpenGL and Q3A games).

Do you get these lags in any other games?

I spent 6 months tracking down the cause of my own lags, it turned out to be a bad hard disk.
Also, I run et fine on an Athlon 2000, I think a 2400 should be able to cope :chef:

I have AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (2Ghz), and i have had the same problem…
Though it only happened if i used ASE to get onto a server, i blamed my system at that time. A single reinstall did the trick tho

I run ET on my AMD1700 with a NVidia 5200FX on Redhat at 1280x1024!

geesh, don’t get all twitchy, guys! I used to play RTCW on a P3-850 so I know you can play it on a CPU slower than an Athlon XP 2400. But the criteria I was applying was Minimum FPS and that’s absolutely a function of CPU. For instance, in ET, have you ever noticed how low your FPS gets outside on Radar map? It’s basically a bug (or an ‘oversight’ or something) in the Q3A engine, that maps can be really laggy if not designed so as to avoid the bug. The only way to overcome it is brute-force CPU power.

ET is not RtCW though. I had as high FPS on my old AMD1400 in RtCW as I have in ET (stock ET maps) on my 2500+.

(Nail) #8

Have you tried the 4.12 Catalyst Drivers?
as described here

I have AMD Duron 1.3 GHz, 256 Mb SDRAM and Geforce 4 MX 440 and it runs fine (ususally 30 - 60 fps) with low settings on most maps. Radar and Baserace B2 won’t run that good.

hmmm, did any one else try help this guy , or is everyone else just here to say how leet their piece of crap computers are?

different drivers have been suggested but he’s not replied since his original post so we have no way of knowing if they worked :frowning:

his performance is somewhat below par considering his PC spec although we don’t know what resolution he’s running it at or tried

I would suggest fiddling with his net settings and possibly turning off any virus software he may be running when playing et
