Game won’t load on windows 7

(Ruben0s) #2

uhmm…which game?

(Rex) #3

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

(Breo) #4

Which game you mean? Only Brink from Splash Damage is officially support Windows 7 I guess
Also try to update the game and drivers aswell.

I don’t think he was asking for help, I think he just wanted us to know is all.

Cool, little guy! Thanks for letting us know!

Try this:

Turning it on and off again.

If that doesn’t work, cover the disk (assuming it’s a disk, if not, the magnetic disk in your hard-drive) with a 5mm layer of semi-skimmed milk (Full fat will break it, whilst no fat will do nothing, I mean it’s no fat, come on!) and put it in your microwave for 32 seconds (@ 850W, adjust time to power wattage accordingly). Afterwards, get the instruction manual (print one off if you have lost it/got a digital download) and wipe the disk(or magnetic disk) in a counter clockwise direction, but the first wipe must be heading north. Then, hit it the disk(or magnetic disk) with approximately 625J of energy (too little will do nothing, too much will potentially erase any data). After having hit said disk, post to your nearest local point of interest (as rated by the tourist information board in your country) and tell all you’re family, friends and acquaintances about what you just did, and say that every like/retweet will help someone less fortunate than you and anyone who does neither will spend an entirety in hell for ignoring a meaningless message. Wait five to ten working weeks and if that does nothing for you, ask Google.

I downloaded Enemy Territory and it will not play on windows 7

(millerq3) #8

Do as Dthwsh says.Be less frustrating

(DarkangelUK) #9

Well at least we’ve narrowed it down to a game.

Generally it works like this, you tell us exactly what’s happening, what errors you get, and what you do to get to that stage. You then also tell us what you’ve tried so far (your post here doesn’t count as a troubleshooting step) and also what your PC specs are… from there people offer advice. Saying “it doesn’t work”, well, doesn’t work.

(badman) #10

Moving to the Wolf: ET section. More information on the error you’re getting as well as your PC specs would be hugely helpful, as DarkAngel says.

(billhass) #11

Alright, Here we go. First I am from the USA, I see that you are all from the United Kingdom. Does that make a difference?
I am using a HP Laptop with windows 7
The message I get when I start the game( Wolf ET) is closing. The screen blinks and spuders and them the message comes up and the games closes.

(Ruben0s) #12

billhass, the game won’t work in the usa. reinstall windows 7 and select uk as region. After that it should work fine.

A hp laptop? you have hundreds of different hp laptops. We can’t guess which one you have.

We can’t help you with the information you’re giving us. Maybe you could say what the message(error) says?

(billhass) #13

Thank guys for your help. I do not want reinstall windows 7, I will uninstall the game

(acQu) #14

Yes ?

USA need to loan you more money !!!

What graphics chip is in the laptop? Sounds like the OpenGL error maybe?

(dutchmeat) #16

Yeah your origin doesn’t have anything to do with this.
What error is showing ? Can you make a screenshot or copy the error message ?

Did you try updating your videocard drivers ? (Like DarkAngel said this might be an OpenGL issue)

(Slang63) #17

I run Windows 7 64 bit in the US; and other than a texture display problem which is most likely specific to my computer, I am having no problems running W:ET.

The one thing I do wonder, is that hardware Windows Data Execution Prevention is preventing W:ET from running. I personally have not run into this as I disabled hardware DEP shortly after buying this computer, as NASCAR Racing 2003 would not run correctly without disabling it. On Vista, windows would give you a message that DEP had prevented this program from running. On Windows 7, you get no such message, all you get is a “this program has stopped working” error message. I knew what the problem was with NR2003, as it occurred at the same point in the game that it gave the error message on Vista.

Now, I can tell you how to disable DEP if it turns out to be the problem, but I would strongly advise you look into the OpenGL situation before trying it. Also with NR2003 not everyone using windows 7 experiences any problem with DEP, so I would presume the same holds true here. So knowing your computer specs; as well either a screenshot of the error message or the exact message of the error, would go a long way towards helping you solve the problem.

In case some people may be confused, Ruben0s was clearly making a light hearted joke at the thought that the country the game is being run in makes a difference because of the perceived country of majority of people on these forums.

The problem with OpenGL on Windows 7 is that, by default, OpenGL is interpreted by the CPU, hence slow. AMD and nVidia “fixed” this by putting direct OpenGL code in their drivers, but this doesn’t always work well.

(Nail) #20

run the exe as administrator, should fix it
