game is very choppy

Hi all,
I recently got back into playing ET and have been having trouble running the game smoothly on a more than adequate PC. My specs are as follows:

  • Athlon II x6 black edition
  • 8gb gskill ddr 3 fatality edition
  • ocz agility 3 ssd
  • radeon 7870 ghz edition 2gb
  • running as administrator with compatibility set to windows xp sp2

I have run this game smoothly on far less than this. On the thread below I saw a question about whether or not the OP had the same issue when hosting a game. I tried this and it runs smooth. Unfortunately the guy who posted it didn’t allude to what it might mean. So, if anyone may have some tips on how I can get this game to work properly I would greatly appreciate it!

p.s. if anyone knows any good original maps servers that would be awesome too! I miss vanilla ET

Since you have AMD you can’t really tweak the card settings for ET like with an NVidia, what could be tried is to set r_primitives to 2 or 0.

Funny thing is that the same thing has been discussed in the first discussion listed, right under yours:

win7 or 8?
I got an SATELLITE L855D
with
Processor: AMD A10-4600M APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics (4 CPUs), ~2.3G
and absolutely no problems at all… but I am running win7 64 bit professional

Sounds like you downloaded that release pack from crossfire? Can’t think of the name but i know it has many problems!! Best download from here if you didn’t :slight_smile:
