Well you in the states? If you were there’s tons of schools with courses for game design and such. I’m currently attending Full Sail in Orlando FL, and while I have pretty mixed reviews it’s helped. You can check that out at www.fullsail.com . There’s also Digipen which is another good school I hear of. Though definitely be sure you do a LOT of research. Some people think of the schools as total rip-offs (I know I have a few times) but you meet people all throughout the industry and that’s what’s going to get you a job, is who you know. That and being enthusiastic and having a great attitude will get you far.

But yeah like I said, those are a couple “Game Design Schools” that I know of off the top of my head. And again many colleges are offering game design oriented courses. The best thing to do is to continue researching and learning as much as you can. Best of luck!

I’ve applied at game design schools before, and none of them teach you GOOD information about level design for the money they suck from you, best way to go is learn yourself from help from the communty

I’m just a noob but I think a mix of both school taught skills and community work is a good start. Get a good structured grounding in programming and then showcase something in the community.

It does depend on exactly what you want to do - ie programmer, level designer, graphic artist … each requires different skills but I think producing something that you can add to a web portfolio is a good start.
