I’d really like a server cvar for soldiers only, or something similar to allow for deathmatch/ctf style servers. It can then be combined with heavy weapon restrictions to ensure a SMG and nade only experience, as is the norm for this type of play. Even better would be to only allow only field ops class whilst eliminating use of all support fire, but smg-soldier only is presumed the minimal effort. Giving it a gametype would be even better as can then filter it in ASE etc :slight_smile:

Unfortunately ET players have a special inability to ignore the motd rules and “console” messages, and atm I can only prevent heavy weapons being used (g_heavyweaponrestriction 0 is not actually preventing all use of artillery or airstrikes), I cannot prevent players going medic or using rifle grenades which specifically are not suited to this type of gameplay. Hence you have half a team of players aware of the ctf ettiquette and half who just insist on going medic or raining down the support fire.

Obviously this wont appeal to most people, just a niche, but its simply an extra option so does not affect those who do not appreciate this type of ctf play anyway. Please, dont bother with the “omg it a team game blah all classes balanced blah”, its a different type of play (1v1 to 3v3) and ET is actually very suited for an alternative mode of play - when players follow the ettiquette. This is not something I’m suggesting for normal play!

Shrub is working on settings like these. His original shrubmod for RTCW was designed for OLTL and I have passed onto him that we need similar settings for ET.

just had a ctf game with flamers and rifle grenades and heavy mg’s and panzerfausts and mines and lots of airstrikes and it sucked :frowning:

trying to get them to just be lt and dont use airstrikes or ffe dont work :frowning: they wont listen…
we need such a command, or at least a properly adminned ctf server :slight_smile:

ToeD, contact admin and ask him to set cd_heavyweaponrestriction 0, it disables the flamers, panz, mortars and mobile mg42 although doesnt disable mines, rifle grenades, detpack or people going medic, and for some reason isnt stopping support fire either (going to experiment, wondering if the forumla doesnt like multiplying/divinding by 0 or something). Way off a complete solution but does 1/4 of the job :frowning:

Yeah, I’ve tested this setting at 0. For OLTL purposes, the others needed to be disabled also.

it doesnt even seem to work at 1 or 0.001, you can just /kill and fire away. Both seem to allow a heavy weapon to be selected also.

perhaps using the following will at least limit the special weapon use to one charge for each respawn :
g_covertopschargetime “9999999”
g_engineerchargetime “9999999”
g_medicchargetime “9999999”
g_soldierchargetime “9999999”

g_ltchargetime “9999999”
Problem with ltchargetime (fieldops) that players will not be able to dish ammopaks :s and of course players can replenish by “/kill”.

ND80/Slicks10 had a map for a while that was only nades and knives…

Not sure how this was done but couldn’t you remove weapon bank 4,5,7?
That leaves medics with med packs and Field ops with ammo packs…

No revives no airstikes, no mines…
And use the charge times in addition to that jsut not setting the field ops to 999999?

Just a though (from someone who know NO server setting bits)

weirdness, after setting the charge rates above (not the lt one though), it goes buggy - fieldops can only give himself 1 or 2 ammo packs.
