Fun Global Stats

(LyndonL) #1

I’m just wondering whether SD will keep track of fun global stats and release them to the public out of interest’s sake.

For example, they must have been keeping track of stats for their previous games since they quote in interviews how many games of W:ET have been played.

L4D have revealed how many zombiies have bit the bullet in their time. It’d be cool to see on here a current or periodic stats list for things like:

  • How many games have been played
  • Which faction predominately wins
  • How many kills there has been
  • Average time for each map
  • Most/Least played map
  • Most popular class/body size and percentages of each
  • Most/Least played weapon
  • Average players level (as in rank - level 1, 2, 3 etc)
  • Most/Least popular abilities

Is this just crazy or is it something that you track anyway?

Can anyone think of other stats that’d be interesting?

Don’t forget Kills and Deaths, so we can boast of our K/D ratios! [/sarcasm]

(madoule) #3

yeah valve definitely has these possibilities. who knows if they offer these for free or for additional fees to publishers and/or devs. but it is definitely possible to track… and FUN IMO

(Kryptyk Samurai) #4

Seriously, I’m so glad SD decided to completely take that out of the game. I’m so sick of CoD/Halo deciding that is the end all/be all stat to determine if you are a decent player. One stat and only one stat is important…wins. That being said, I have already decided that regardless of wins/losses, I will be enjoying this game immensely…it just looks like too much fun to be had.

-Collective xp earned

(tokamak) #6

xp/min
revives/min or revives/death

I just want stats to be dynamic like that, not flat counts of whatever you plan to stack up.

(Herandar) #7

I keep track of my stats for each weapon in BFBC2.

(andredoc) #8

I love the bullets shot tracking, those numbers are so high

Couple other stuff could be around the SMART feature

(Seyu) #9

-Turrets hacked

Aesthetics related perhaps-
-Color most used by players
-Set of clothing/tattoos most used by players

It would actually be a good and cheap marketing ploy to have Bethedsa product a “State of the Ark” address each month and sort of dramatise the game, even invoke a little rivalry between platforms (!!!).

Those sound like more personal stats. I think he was listing stats that are cumulative of the community.

How about

Most/least played class - time amount for each.
Number of teamkills
Objectives completed

I like the CoD ones, tons of C4 thrown, litres of revive serum used etc.

Hmm…I know you’re talkin’ about Global Stats, but I’d just like to say that with Splash Damage makin’ the smart move to remove the damn K/D Ratio from Leaderboards, it’s safe to say they’ll be showing off the amount of “Class Specific” things you’ve all done with all the different classes…so you’d be able to see how many revives or heath buffs you’ve given out throughout your Career on the Ark as a Medic…

Huh, turns out that’s just as likely to be a Global Stat as well as a Personal Stat, and personally, I think the more they show off the Team-Work Stats, the more people will compete to beat their friends…ironically, through helpin’ them and others, now that would be the most literal term of “Friendly Competition”…

(SockDog) #14

Problem with personal stats and friendly competition is that when someone is trying to beat their friends on number of team revives and as such refuses to change class during a map, to say a much needed engineer, then the stats have caused a negative impact on the game.

Much better that friendly competition is reserved for when you play against them or are playing another game centered around leaderboard scores.

(Nail) #15

The challenges should be the only things with “LeaderBoards” they don’t affect online play and they give stat whores something to e-brag about

(H0RSE) #16

I got the impression that the stats he was talking about, wouldn’t be competitive - there would be no leaderboard. Just a list of cumulative stats from the community, that players can look at just for fun, with no competition.

(Nail) #17

stats = whoring, they should be a seperate game mode

(Humate) #18

Even stats like Strogg vs GDF - people used to get worked up about them, and draw conclusions about the balancing of factions. Conversely, when you see those COD stats when you load up the game, its not like the actual number of C4 kills, or the amount of tomahawk kills actually has any meaning behind it. Its just one massive number. If theres any meaning, its a subtle - ‘look how many people play our game’.

(LyndonL) #19

Exactly. Global stats that don’t influence bad teamplay.

COD:BLOPS just recently published a stat that there has been enough kills that it would wipe out the Earth’s population 9 times over. That kinda stuff is interesting and promotes the game a little as well. It doesn’t help you personally, but it’s a “fun stat” that you can see about the game.

[QUOTE=tokamak;259338]xp/min
revives/min or revives/death

I had a revive/death stat on The Best Medic along with a cool chart which had bars for side by side revives and deaths for each day, your daily average, and a moving average where you could pick the number of days the moving average was based on, all on a background line chart showing hours/day played. It was pretty cool. (had the same thing for accuracy). But I agree, stats like this are best left off (I only did it for ETQW because I was looking for a “good” stat that people could focus on more than kill/death).

What I would like to see for global stats is:

Map win loss records and average times it took to complete each phase. Will help balance maps by adjusting times if needed.

Average XP/game for each class. This way SD could say, hey, the medic really gets a lot more XP than the soldier on average, so lets give the soldier some love by giving him a little more XP for kills (after all, he’s a soldier and soldiers are supposed to kill).

(the two above I’d be surprised if SD hasn’t already though of and will be tracking at least on there own).

Map heat maps would be cool but i can’t see any usefull purpose for them (Sponge did a really cool heat map thing for ETQW, don’t know if any of you ever saw it). Maybe if you could view them by game (comp match results along with heatmap would be cool).
