Fueldump lag

(Gorrdy) #1

Any ideas on why fueldump likes to lag on our larger server? I know its not our box, as we only currently have 2 ET servers running with a dual xeon 2.8 , plenty of bandwith and memory. All other process’s have been shut down as we only use it for gaming, no webhosting or mail shit. I tried bumping up hunkmegs to 256 still no help, any other settings to bump up on big servers? Already have maxrate at 25000.

Danke

what number of players are you hosting for?

When does this lag occur? (What phase of the map.)

for me the first part of the map is always laggy … depending on the number of players. second part is better.

42 players, i think the game never being designed to go over 32 is part of the problem and some sort of map issue is the other. We run many other even larger maps with no issues at all. The lag is really not specific to any part of the map, just more like situations or intensity.

All our pb ss and other settings are set low, so thats not the issue either. Bumping hunkmegs to 256 didnt do squat either, what about zonemegs? Will that effect anything?

42 players all in the same area you are probably hitting maxrate. Not much you can do. You can try raising maxrate, but AFAIK, around 25000 is the practical limit.

You should also make actually measure the CPU load, as certain types of map construction can make a big difference. I’ve made a map where 1 player would completely lag out a decent server. If your CPU is overloaded, limiting the clients frame rate (com_maxfps) can help.

CPU load for that server never goes above 13-18 %, total server loads from both full servers never above 42% . Is it recommended to set hunkmegs and zonemegs for the server in the command line or just let the game decide?

I’ve always seen it’s recommended to set these in the command line.
