Friendly Fire

(Shadedluck) #1

Hey so, I was watching one of the gameplay videos and I noticed that he accidentally shot a teammate, and appeared to hurt him. I was just wondering if you can actually kill a teammate from it, and what exactly are the repercussions of doing such a thing? In TF2, there was a lot of “spy checking” which basically consisted of shooting your team to see if any of them were spies. Were you guys able to undo this by adding friendly fire? And if so, what exactly happens if you do actually kill a teammate? Because I want to go into the Operative class, I was wondering if this might happen to me. And also, if the friendly fire was accidental, ie explosives killed him because he ran into the launched grenade from a soldier, what would happen to the soldier?
Thanks for the help!

FF is off by default, but can be turned on (which i think off makes the game a spy-check spam heaven where significant strategy is removed, but thats just imo). You can kill your own team, probably with an xp penalty. Hmm, the soldier might lose some XP but having your team blow you up happens so i expect it to not be so severe.

It’s the most unimaginative solution to grieving yeah.

(trigg3r) #4

i think there’s a thread about this somewhere.
anyway Friendly Fire will be turned off by default, you can turned it on if you like. But nobody know yet (well i’m sure the devs know but they are telling us nothing :frowning: ) if you can kill a teammate or if they receive reduced damage…

oh and welcome to the forums

FF is fun on.

When you’re team is about to win you can shot your teammates just for lulz.

SWEET,… infractions show up in your profile!

i’m 1/0 (0)

Tokamak… is 0/1 (1)

What’s the difference?

Thanks for the replies guys, maybe the game will be more fast paced than TF2 and other games like that, so there won’t be so much “spy checking” during it. Whatever the case may be, I can’t wait for the game to come out.

(Weapuh) #7

Means you are lesser of a person :frowning: I forgot all about the celebratory shooting in the face  That’s %90 of the fun right there.

And it definitely will be faster than TF2, on most aspects, i can’t imagine an engi banging away on a turret for a minute without dying.

Spy checking is one thing. But players with close-ranged weaponry like to use unattentive opponent players as living shields against their peers. The hesitance to fire at enemies near friendly players is diminished if there’s no way of hurting your mates.

This is actually true.

FF on is great.

No Spy check, No Random Grenades or any random nonsense that turns shooters into spam. It adds tons to the gameplay.

Just please have a report/kick system.

Also, another question that just popped into my mind: The preorder from walmart and Steam, that Hockler Machine Pistol, is it a primary or a secondary weapon? I think it would be a primary but I just wanted to double check.

That was one of my issues with L4D2, deciding between helping teammate out who’s being attacked, or help him out and have 50%/50% chance of doing more damage then what would happen if I didn’t. Relieves a lot of stress of ‘Do I help him out or potentially screw him over and he rages at me?’

Personally, I never liked the FF option because you always get some jerk that decides that it’s hilarious to team kill. Even if he gets kicked, he still manages to weasel back onto the servers. Just say “no” to FF!

(Nail) #13

sorry, FF on is the only way my buddies and I play, griefers get banned on my server and get destroyed with airsoft pellets in our LANs

(trigg3r) #14

well, if you’re a light body type you can only use it as a primary, if you’re a medium or a heavy you can use it as a secondary if you want

(Weapuh) #15

No FF is a lazy way of dealing with griefers otherwise the devs have no forsight and crappy kicking mechanics. Not worth missing out on FF on awesomeness.

This bit hasn’t been answered, because we dont have an official answer, but in etqw there was a complaint system. Everytime you got teamkilled, a pop up would come on screen to ask you if you want to make a complaint. If you select yes, then the teamkiller was deducted XP. After a certain amount of complaints, the player was kicked from the server. Using this system, most people do not make a complaint, unless they feel its deliberate.

As far as spy checking - in etqw the there were two hit indicators. One that showed damage towards the enemy (red), and one that showed damage towards friendlies (green). If you saw someone who was acting strangely, you would shoot them in the foot and look to see if the indicators went red.

Keep in mind these two things, were in SD’s last game and theres no guarantee they will be in Brink.

ps :magicpony:

I think that FF should be off for matchmaking. It should however be easy to change. If you could host your own game on console it should be an option.

I know this isn’t really on topic but it doesn’t warrant a new thread. Why don’t games on consoles incorporate the system for finding games that console TF2 uses?

That would work very well, excluding the bit with the hit indicators. That just makes it even easier. I like the complaint system, and though there WILL be the people to complain about everything, that would balance it out very well. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

(BioSnark) #19

From the videos it looks like there is at least some hit indication in brink.

If that’s an issue, don’t play on harder difficulties. They’re supposed to be, yes, harder. FF is completely insignificant on normal and below.

Warning versus infraction. Temp ban for 3 infractions. They both expire in a week or so.

Best imho is…

Friendly damage turns to damage to you. But yeah, servers should have options.
