Friendly Fire will ruin this game.

(Sabateur) #1

The newest addition to ruin Competitive play is Friendly fire. Nader, Fragger, any Support, Poor Rhino!, If you play these Mercs… Expect to lose experience from other players. I really hope an ally is not too close when your Marty goes off Nader. Or when an enemy blows an allys Proximity mine. OOPS. When your firing an MG at a enemy team in a corner and your friend decides to rush them, you lose experience. When you throw that perfect grenade and a friendly runs in front of you and wipes your team… Do not plan to see and experience… I have personally gone to get a clutch revive with Sparks on a teammate taking that last bullet and my heal gun hit first… I murdered an ally… This will effectively ruin the game. Keep it to private matches only… Alsoo i would love to know how they plan to keep trolls from ruining it further? Should i jump in front of an ally firing at low health so i can make them lose xp? Sounds like fun right?.. Bad decision …

Uh oh, people might have to think more rather than being able to mindlessly mash out explosives or stupidly walking right in front of firing teammates with zero consequence.

I actually agree, Friendly Fire has no place in competitive environments unless it is specifically chosen as a search option, there are far too many variables to account for and such a massive range of explosive weapons which would destroy everyone, friend and foe. With that said, I’ve also had a lot of fun dealing with friendly fire during initial trials of the private match alpha with our little steam group, had a ton of fun there and… well I never got any team kills, it’s fairly easy to show trigger discipline and stop firing when a friendly takes point in front of you… but in an open lobby where there are players who would seek to abuse the system, it’ll be trouble.

(umberInlet) #4

It’s only for Private Matches atm though.

(Jurmabones) #5

That’s the thing though. Friendly fire itself isn’t some issue. You’re basically admitting some of the community is too stupid or immature to play around a more strategic mechanic.

They’d rather have their no-skill spam fests without having to think. Or they’ll just troll people because they have nothing better to do and don’t actually care about winning or being a good player.

I’m a long-time gamer and I used to play a LOT of RTCW and ET back in the day. Nobody complained about FF where I played. People would get autokicked after 3 tks in one round.

The problem isn’t FF, the problem is the unacceptable amount of dumb noobs and pathetic trolls that are in ANY game’s community these days. FF makes for less spam and more strategy.

Hell with tailoring everything to the lowest common denominator. Plenty of garbage games they can go play that pander to their kind already.

(Sabateur) #6

The issue is that you can not remove trolls or immature players from any game. It is practically impossible to ever do so. Therefore the introduction of FF to this will dissuade people from staying with the game. It does make it a bit more strategic, But the very game itself is not very strategic to begin with. It was made to promote Airstrikes and explosives, and now it is trying to limit it? This will prove to be flawed when people use it for fun trolling to get someone removed from a match. And it is not Only in private matches. Just came from a Comp match where i was killed 5 times and killed one other.

I agree it makes the game play different, and that there’s no way one person can force another person to not be a troll or noob or whatever. I guess what I’m getting at is, people have to improve themselves and take it upon themselves not to be a bad/harmful player. There’s no point, imo, making a game as resistant to troll behavior as possible. At that point the developers aren’t making the game how they want to. They aren’t making the game to be as fun or skilled as it can be. They’re making it to work around crappy people. Games being made to higher standards will inevitably weed out players who can’t meet up to higher standards. But that’s just how I feel about it.

(Dawnlazy) #8

I just want to know why the patch notes said it was only an option for private matches, when I played comp today I killed 2 of my friends with my orbital laser simply because I had no clue it was on.

(Amerika) #9

FF On is already use in league/tournament play. It’s an option for private servers. It’s not on for any other mode and I seriously doubt it will ever be enabled on pubs or all pubs or even ranked MM. So the sky is not falling

(ttownjoe) #10

FF on will become the norm in pubs just like it was in et and rtcw, if you don’t like it you can play the ff off servers.

(Dawnlazy) #11

But it IS enabled in ranked MM!

(Amerika) #12

I wasn’t aware that it was turned on in ranked MM. My bad. I guess people will have to learn how to play like all the rest of us who scrim/pug/do league play.

(spectrrrrrre) #13

Good thing I don’t solo queue for Comp.

(ttownjoe) #14

FF on servers FF off server, choose what you like

(XavienX) #15

That’s what I thought, so apparently it’s in all competitive game modes now…they should have separate competitive matches, one with FF, one without.

(Ghosthree3) #16

Well to be fair they are though.

(SteelMailbox) #17

As far as I know it is only for private servers.
Me and some people played a private match with FF and it wasn’t so bad it actually was kinda hilarious and you can’t actually defib kill friendlies.

(Kouken) #18

Played a few private Comp games previously and FF is a great addition
Means people are more careful with explosive spam, and thats only a good thing

Only negative is it makes Proxy a little dangerous/underplayed as its very easy to enemy to shoot her proxies and kill other team members

(neg0ne) #19

there is no competetive or “serious” game without ff on. period.

if it comes for pubs … we´ll see, but most likely as an option.

(stoutSoup) #20

I thought friendly fire was only in private rooms? It’s going to be in pub matches as well?
