Friendly fire should be enabled

If not for everything then at least explosives. You shouldn’t be able to sit in your allies airstrikes or on top of an allies mines

(Cyphre) #2

As a separate game mode or server option, sure.

Otherwise, I can only foresee terrible griefing.

(Smoshi) #3

I agree with wisteria. I imagine they’re going to open up some sort of ranked/competitive mode further down the road with hardcore rules put in place.

ff on works, but trials were done with seasoned vets, likely to be a server option

(tealCommando) #5

Allies frequently go infront of my bullets and I frequently shoot at them, explosives and bullet friendly fire would allow for griefing and we don’t need that.

(bistrePecan) #6

Why is everyone so afraid of griefing like games just don’t work with ff on? If people are going to grief you there are far better ways of doing it than shooting at you.

(Nail) #7

not many people are used to FF on gaming

(Hipolipolopigus) #8

As much as people will say how bad it might be, it usually seems to work fairly well. It’s an option for Battlefield titles and it’s a feature in Planetside 2. There’s minimal griefing (PS2 has consequences, Battlefield’s consequences are managed by server plugins) and players are usually quick to learn that they shouldn’t fire without a confirmed target.

I’d say make it a server option, but I’d love to see it as a default in competitive.

Because many of us are keenly aware of the hazards it brings. There is a very good reason there are only options for it in other games, such as Hardcore game modes in CoD Multiplayer.

Again, if you’re going to get griefed, friendly fire on or off isn’t going to stop it. Just need a votekick to remove people or an autokick for a certain number of TKs.

This is a game design choice. I for one, think its ****ing stupid that people aren’t hurt by mines that go off under them. They don’t have to actually trigger when teammates walk over them, but when they go off everyone should be hurt.

I asked a dev in-game in a previous beta about friendly fire and he answered me : “When the punishment system is finished”. Which should indeed come with FF on in any game.

I still think skyhammer, stoker, and fragger are the best mercs in any circumstances because of FF turned off. With FF on, people will have to think before spamming AOE blasts.

(Rokkamaisteri) #12

I’m fine with either way.
But as for my personal opinion I don’t see what Friendly Fire will add to current game.
Game is rather action packed, valuing fast speed and aggression especially in attacker side. So what forcing extra carefulness for each team will really provides to players, when it basically encourages to work with tight pack?

(Szakalot) #13

there are various reasons why you would want FF on:

a) firing tactics - ff on greatly expands on how players have to position themselves for optimal crossfire, rather than purely bumrushing the opponent.

b) abilities spam - i think mindful use of abilities should be encouraged. throwing an airstrike, and then have your teammates run under a rain of explosions as cover is a little ridiculous. same with running through stoker’s fire, nader’s nades, etc. etc.

c) teamwork - friendly fire on requires more teamwork. More opportunities for teamwork to matter = profit

I suppose 8v8 casual on maps as is can be with FF off, or server-dependable, but 5v5 comp will hopefully have FF on at all times.

(B_Montiel) #14

Needless to say it is indeed intended to be an interesting feature on small servers. 8v8 servers will always be sausage meatgrinders and this would be terribly worse with FF on.

For those on never played before the stress test, this is how it feels like to run across stoker’s molotov on 6v6 stopwatch with FF off :

(Rokkamaisteri) #15

Al’right, this is point I didn’t mention earlier but probably the only exception. For abilities being used “reasonably” I can agree why they should affect to teammates and personally accept that.

(sinKrin) #16

Are they planning to implement a complaints system? Accidents can happen with FF on, but a complaints system acts as a good measure against griefers. Too many complaints and the player gets booted. It worked quite well in ET:QW.

(yakcyll) #17

Imo votekick/votetempban and automatic use of such measures will be enough to deal with intentional griefers; fairly sure we’ll see something along these lines being implemented in future.

Trelping

(Nail) #19

votekick is in place already

(Szakalot) #20

it is not obvious at all, and i have never seen a votekick pass, or even one in action for that matter.

Streamlined voting system is hopefully in the pipeline.
