Framerate (fps) in game (maps), and rig

(Dragonji) #21
Intel Core2 Duo E8400, 4 GB RAM, ATi Radeon HD 5830, Resolution 1920x1080.

Framerates (profile on high, vsync off): not so good (~30 - 50 on the 3 maps, camden a bit better). Got a stuttering very frequently. Also inside the UI menu i got input lag, the cursor is not very responsive. Game is not enjoyable.

Framerates (profile on low, vsync off): better, but still feels not precise (on the 3 first maps i got ~30 - 70, Camden gives me a nice ~90 - 150 FPS). Stuttering still frequent, but not so on Camden. On UI menu i got still a bit input lag.

EDIT: in addition: framerate very unstable. Mostly fluctuating from 30 to 70. Depends on where i stand in the map and which direction i look at.
Overclock your CPU. It reaches 4,0 GHz with no probs. Higher FPS guaranteed.

(acQu) #22

Hehe, i thought about this. But imho it is better if devs try to to reach even 2010 hardware.

Example games where my hardware pretty much runs well: Battlefield 3 (on low), Planetside 2 (on low), Day Z (think it was medium). All other games so far including crysis did run acceptable (crysis 1, 2 on medium pretty ok). Far Cry 3 is probably the game which it can’t handle anymore xD

Also, great opportunity for the devs to gather feedback on how it runs on less powerful machines

Agree on that!

The most world-class game engine to date, Unreal Engine 4 gives you the power to do more than ever before. Bring your creative visions to life directly in game without programmer assistance via the new Unreal Kismet.

Unreal Engine 4’s architecture offers fully dynamic lighting features, cutting down on development time and ensuring less iteration on creative ideas. With significant new visual features, Unreal Engine 4 enables you to achieve high-end visuals, while remaining both scalable and accessible to make games for low-spec PCs.

@acQu:

Presumably once the debug code is ripped out and some pre-release optimising is done things should improve for lower end hardware.

I guess at the moment it’s running quite CPU heavy and your 5 year old processor is feeling this.

Although this is purely speculation as I’ve not bothered to look at loads or whatnot.

Can you guys please have a look at the STAT UNITGRAPH  I just want to compare the results.

With me the GPU thread is constantly flashing. Typing STAT RAW shows to me that it frequently hits the bottom, which i interpret as almost no time being spent inside the GPU. So it should also flash with you ? (just trying to make sure if it is maybe a weird local problem here), but it should also flash with you guys.

All the rest of the data seems ok.

(Mustang) #26

For me yes the yellow line is constantly flickering and also spending most time at 0.
I get a steady 90FPS on maximum settings on every map with the latest drivers @ 1680x1050.

Processor:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 4.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~4.4GHz
Memory:8192MB Corsair Vengance 1600mhz
Hard Drive:1 TB 7200rpm
Video Card:2x AMD Radeon HD 6850 Series (crossfire)
Monitor:Samsung SyncMaster 2233 120hz 3D LCD
Sound Card:Speakers (2- Logitech G35 Headset)
Operation System:Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)
Motherboard:ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3
Out of interest, what mouse/pad do you use?

(INF3RN0) #28

Logitech G400 @ 800dpi (in game sens of 40). My mousepad is currently a small 12"x12" matte, but the last few games I played forced me to adapt my sensitivity to much higher than what I was used to in the past. I aim more visually than reflexively in FPS games anyway, so I have the ability to play fairly consistently across most sensitivities.

Here’s a quick fps distribution graph i did. The data for “before path” was collected at 25.11 so it was the first version i got and the “after patch” one i collected yesterday. I do not remember the map for the first set, but the second was collected on either London Bridge or Whitechapel, but as both did get 45fps average i doubt there is a big difference(which is actually surprising).

I will try to record better data for future reference and make an automated program to draw the graphs.

My setup is the same as usual, but i’ll just add it again:
CPU: C2D E8500 @ 3.8GHz
RAM: 4GB 800MHz CL4 DDR2
GPU: AMD HD7950 @ 950MHz/1450MHz
Resolution: 1280x1024
Lowest graphics settings, DX9

Fps data captured with fraps.

(Mustang) #30

@murka

How/where did you extract the data from?

(Apples) #31

I can easily do graph with the R program if needed, just send me the data

(murka) #32

Was wondering how to programmatically get the map name and when it changes so i can tell fraps to stop recording, append the data to an existing file along with the map name and date/time.

(Wezelkrozum) #33

Actually, I noticed that the framerate is much more smooth than with the previous build. I get almost no stuttering anymore. And the best thing is that the frequent stuttering of 2 times per second is completely gone. Great job SD!

(murka) #34

Kay, i included all the fraps fps files i had(2 from 25.11 and 2 from 10.12). Also normalized the frequency.

Also i did a quick run on London Bridge without anyone else on the server. This time i also recorded frametimes so i have a much larger dataset to use instead of average fps values over 1 sec. I got an average of 90 fps.

I do have a hunch that my CPU is the bottleneck if fps drops only due to increased action in the game.

Do you use DX11 version ? Is so, please note that it still experimental (and right now is designed for high end PCs)
I would not be surprised by instable DX11 framerate at this point.

(murka) #36

No, i would never use anything above the lowest graphics options in a multiplayer FPS game.

I do have to admit the exact opposite. Here’s a graph using the average fps for 1 second intervals and takes the difference between consecutive seconds. Consecutive seconds should have a very low fps difference to consider fps stable.

(Humate) #37

Dont know if the fraterate is worse, but its still more or less unplayable with max teams.
Hovers b/w 30 & 50.

(acQu) #38

Same here: b/w 10 & 30 today with max teams.

10 FPS ? Somtimes it goes up to 60, ok, but at the important situations it always drops significantly. They are really fluctuating.

(Thundermuffin) #39

I’ve edited the config files and turned off everything and set the things that have to be on to their lowest, but I still can’t get over probably 30 or 45 FPS with the same computer that I was getting solid 60 to 90 FPS the last time I played a few weeks ago.

I have an e8400 @ 3.0GHz, 4870HD 1GB, and 4 gigs of ram, so I am below average for most gamers today, but I still get decent FPS in other new games.

(Bananas) #40

Also getting bad fps in max games. I wish I could play like Camden was. I got 120 on there >.>

e8400@3.0, 4 gigs ram, GTX 560 Ti.

On a side note, I’ve noticed the game launcher/updater stays open while running the game. For some reason it likes to take up 10-18% cpu even though I can close it and continue playing. Closing it improves my fps since my CPU isn’t the best.
