Fragments in the Spotlight, but crafting...

(Da_Mummy) #1

On 2nd September in 2016 the devs posted a video discussing crafting after their massively negative feedback on the system they released at the time. And qoute: “…we’re currently working on a design that will incorporate the best of both worlds in one feature”
Now I know that this is all old news considering that everybody knows by now that they’re currently reworking everything about the loadout card system. But the fact that they leaked the new fragment cases got me thinking: Are you guys actually STILL working on a decent crafting system or are you working on something that you can’t tell us about right now because it will be a massive change? And if neither why would you make cases for a mechanicthat nobody likes or uses?
Crafting still sucks there is no denying that. I wanted a decent golden Bushwhacker Card and ithe took me a month to get enough fragments and credits and all that and all I got was the BL81 in bamboo twice and the damn SM71 in bamboo as well.
So I wanted to ask you guys how important is crafting to you and what are your experiences with it. And if you like it tell me why I am genuinely curious.

Bamboo is gg

I freakin hate the crafting system. It only brings more frustration and all the fun we had with numerous trade ups in order to get to cobalt is gone.

Not to mention the hyper inflation that took place with this crafting system. Needing 50k gold for a single cobalt is a joke.

(Mc1412013) #4

So i guess ill be increasing pool of useless fragments against my will. I havent crafted ever as far as i can remember

I used to be more into crafting, but ever since the massive spam of special editions, I find myself running them more.
For one it provides more variety, and they’re usually a lot more rare too. If you wanna show off, a WTD card is a lot higher status and more rare than a gold or even cobalt.

I’d be more into it if they added more crafting tiers, like the diamond skin or whatever that was replaced with cobalt, but as of now, I guess I’m just too used to it to really care all that much.
To a lower level maybe cobalts are still godly cards, but to me I find myself leaning towards rarer special editions more and more.

(Terminal_6) #6

After recent events, I have an entire page of special edition cards and not even 10 cobalts. Crafting takes a bit of a back seat to event participation.

221k in fragment stock already, another 20k+ waiting to either be recycled or traded.

Unless they give a valid use for them, stagnant that stick shall be.

That’s like, 11 cobalts… costing about 550k in credits not counting the additional 20k+ waiting to either be recycled or traded.

Gratz

And only 300k in credits banked as of now…gotta grind hard.

Boosters get you there 50% faster… and I recommend XP whoring in Stopwatch or Ranked…

(Teflon Love) #11

Every time a new merc is released I craft a few Bronze cards until I get one I like. Other than that I wait for crafting weeks and make a few stabs at crafting Cobalt cards.

I still haven’t got the achievements for crafting 3 and 10 loadouts which were added a few weeks ago.

Actually, if I can alternate between Stopwatch and Execution, I will because the potential for 6k Game mode XP per 6 round match is there. I can earn over 8k in Stopwatch but that’s like only up to 4k per half.

(ThePigVomit) #14

Be an aura whore and pull a minimum of 12k XP per SW match.

I just… I just kinda want reassurance Splash Damage has a gameplan?

So Splash Damage wants fragments to be some kind of “significant” currency for the “important” crafting system so players can obtain “valuable” cobalts. Except they consistently sabotage everything to do with crafting. Crafting still involves RNG. Players can still buy whatever loadout they want, no RNG, with credits. Then they flooded players with more valuable special editions with back to back to back to back to back events. Now, it looks like every merc is going to get a more valuable obsidian, on top of trading likely being implemented. Who even cares about cobalts or fragments anymore?

Whatchu doin’ dawg. Don’t you see? You trying to sell Hondas but you putting the Honda next to a Ferrari while giving away Teslas. I got two cobalts and nearly two pages of special editions / obsidians. I don’t care about the cobalts no more, and cause I don’t care about cobalts, I don’t care about crafting or fragments. You’ve hoisted your own petard.

How do you make people care again? Fuck if I know. I always try to recommend a possible fix, but this time, you’ve botched your own system so thoroughly, I think it’s beyond repair. Maybe add another tier like diamond. I don’t know.

You just gotta shake your head. How do you so consistently sabotage yourself with every other decision?

– Edit

Add a new, actual prestige tier that can only be crafted, e.g. diamond. To craft a diamond, you must own the loadout as a silver, gold, special edition or cobalt. Then you must obtain x hours playtime on the loadout based on starting quality, e.g. 50 hours for cobalt, 100 hours for special edition, etc. After fulfilling this requirement, the loadout may be upgraded to diamond with an additional y credits and z fragments, also based on starting quality. The loadout card changes to reflect new quality with a new icon and a new border. Ingame, the character model simply gets some new paraphernalia, e.g. a new hat ( like a cadet hat ) on top of base skin, a diamond marking or tattoo visible on the right glove or hand, etc. Silvers and golds will be upgraded to cobalt in the process while special editions retain the original skin. Obsidians, due to sometimes having unique meshes, are excluded.

This is purely a prestige option, but will likely be fairly popular / successful. As this tier can only be crafted, it should create new demand for crafting. This will involve no RNG outside of obtaining the base loadout in the first place, and allows upgrading even from silver ( though the cost would be extremely high ).

After 400+ hours in the game I’ve still not one cobalt card. Crafting isn’t worth the credits, i rather unlock mercs / buy the best cards for 17.5k. At this moment I’m at around 42k fragments being useless since I most likely wont use them. 50k credits isn’t worth to gamble for a random cobalt card that will most likely be less useful than my bronze / event cards.

(Da_Mummy) #17

So I just found out that Fragments are also going to be used to “polish” weapon skin condition which kinda ruins my hopes and dreams of a fully functional loadout card system.
I guess they are just going to give up on Card crafting as a whole and won’t change anything until the release their new system.

cobalt will come to you even without buying any stuff

just focus on buying all the mercs, learn their abilities and short coming so you get gud.

I got my first Cobalt drop at after about 650 hours and then it was identical to an Obsidian I already had. So don’t bother hoping for drops.

Spend your credits on mercs and occasionally crafting Bronze cards until you bought everything that is useful for you in order to enjoy the game.

After that you will notice that your credits just keep piling up (unless you invest them into event cases), and this is the moment when you can spend them to craft Cobalt.

(Aazhyd) #20

I just craft golden loadout cards because cobalts are way too expensive. I have tons of fragments (over 40,000), but can’t use much because I lack the credits.

Would be a good idea to make fragments usable to craft weapon cards.
