FPS Problem

(NX-306) #1

Hi

i’ve recently got a not nice problem with ET. Frame rate droppend on about 30-40 in combat, 40-60 in non-combat. Resolution doesn’t matter - same fps on r_mode 1,4,6… same fps on r_picmip 0,1,2,5,7… Compressed textures on/off, pb_system 0/1, all sys proccesses killed. Also in GL-XS, 3DMark2001 and Sandra2004 proccessor/graphic card performance is as it should be, same with other games except ET… AXP2800+/Gf4Ti4800 … anyone can help ?

man, i have this problem for last week, beforee i had ever 85-90 (with 85 limit  ) but it just goes dramatically down… :frowning:

EDIT - i would do almost anything in decreasing details etc to get 100+, but just nothing helps…

Stupid question perhaps, but did you change anything on your system when it started? Like upgrade the GFX driver?

(NX-306) #5

i reinstalled windows - there it started(maybe litlle before, i was backing up all critical stuff, formatting disc etc. 280GB takes a while to be cleared :). So i formated disc, reinstalled windows once again. and get it to last known working configuration (drivers etc.). But the problem persisted. Also i reinstalled windows 2 more times, tried a lot of detonators (41.09,45.33,51.75,52.16). Tried other AGP modes as well. The only thing that maybe changed was that it was the first format of all HDDs the comp uses(before only system disc was formatted, this time all data discs came with it)

So anyone can help ?

Lots of people seem to forget to install AGP/motherboard driver when they reinstall the OS. That makes a HUGE difference with some mobos.

(NX-306) #7

didn’t i said that i tried other AGP modes as well ? withnout AGP driver i would be locked on PCI Mode, so i didn’t forget. I’m reinstalling windows really often, so i know what drivers i do need (expect ET :(((( )

EDIT:
BTW with some suggestions i got from other ppl i got goldrush, oasis back to normal, but still fueldump and railgun are unplayable (ok unaimable  ). As well seems that what matters the most is number of ppls on the server.

By default, an obsolete agp is always loaded. If you have a Via, Sis, Nvidia, and sometimes Intel chipsets, you need to load the newest AGP driver to get the correct performance.
Now sometimes reloading DirectX can help the situation. And with the Nvidia, rechecking the driver settings in windows can help. The vertSync, if checked, can really slow the system to a crawl for example. Anisotropic filtering can also slow it down.

What did you do? (Just curious…)

(NX-306) #10

Sauron - litlle played with bios, vert sync off, changed HDDs in comp (perf got really up when i left system disc on it’s own cable, not sharing it with data.3 disc :), antialiasing forced to be off all time, compressed textures, and some more thing i can’t remeber… in goldrush i got 3x more FPS, and ever more on oasis… and from 30 to 40 on railgun :frowning:

ComputerTech - thanks, maybe it’s time to get there another version of DX and update Via drivers, will try…
EDIT - hmmm, good ^^ at least some more power :)) but stil. railun bad bad
