(BXpress) #1

hidiho.
i have a hardware prob.
at first my system:
Pentium 4, 1.7Ghz
Radeon 9600pro (Powercolor)
512MB SDRAM

when i play ET, on lowest or highest graphic settings, doesnt matter, the FPS go up and down, doesnt matter where i stand in a map.
they go from 10 to 50 to 30 to 40 to 20 to 50 to 10 to 30 etc.
all the time. and my game stucks at some points.
i have shut down every background programm, even my web browsers and ASE.
but it still stucks all the time!
can anyone help me PLEASE?
PS: @ others games like Q3 or Max Payne 2 i dont get this bug (Q3=120FPS;MP2=60-70FPS).
thx

it’s always going to go up/down depending on where/what you are looking at.

some things like the grass on radar are going to lag you really bad compared to say the stone streets on goldrush.

this is the cfg I use when I play, you *can tweak things a lot more but doing so can get you booted from some servers.

The only thing I ever had trouble with in these settings was one server required r_picmip to be no greater than 2.

cg_gibs “0”
cg_marktime “0”
cg_brassTime “0”
cg_shadows “0”
cg_atmosphericEffects “0”

com_maxfps “120”
com_hunkmegs “128”

r_picmip “3”
r_gamma “2”
r_intensity “2”
r_OverBrightBits “0”
r_lodbias “2”
r_fastsky “1”
r_drawsun “0”
r_colorbits “16”
r_depthbits “16”
r_texturebits “16”
r_subdivisions “80”

If you don’t want to really do any major tweaking, just make sure you use these 3:

r_fastsky “1”
r_drawsun “0”
cg_atmosphericEffects “0”

I had that exact problem when I just had 380 megs of memory in my machine running win xp. See if you’re hard drive is swapping constantly as that seemed to be the case for me. I used to use a program called EndItAll to shutdown programs and background processes with, then it was playable again.

If you run Norton anti virus while you play try disabling it

I always disable it but it still seems to think it’s ok to update it’s virus list any time it wants.

Nothing worse than having the game grind to a halt and then the pretty orange “Your virus files have been updated” box pop up in a fire fight.

I wish windows had a shut down all non-critical stuff button.

There is an option in Norton to disable auto-update, have you tried this?
