FOV on the PC

(wazups2x) #41

Haha, there’s no such thing as a “wrong” FOV, it’s all personal preference.

And changing the FOV does not effect performance.

Also, FOV is the last setting a PC gamer has to worry about, there’s resolution, textures, AA, AF, Shaders, etc… You probably shouldn’t be a PC gamers if you don’t know how to change settings.

just wanna say that i slam dunked with that post and i’m gonna be lollin’ when everyone has to play brink with fov 90 and can’t imagine why

(Je T´aime) #43

gives us the option to max it at least to 110 thks

(NeoRussia) #44

FoV is the biggest part for me, it decides whether a game is playable or not. Can’t play Nazi Zombies because of the nausea and disorientation that comes with a console fov, layed off playing BO because of developers not caring about it on the PC. The pitiful excuse is that there is some kind of “advantage” to running with a higher fov. Obviously there is when your game runs at 65fov (unplayable). When 90 is standard there is no actual advantage between running 130 over 90 at least in the games that you are able to change fov past 90 in so far.

(Mustkunstn1k) #45

I doubt I will go over 90. But it should definitely be customizable, Crysis 2 had like 65 or something… :expressionless:

(brbrbr) #46

even heard about “fairplay” ?
or FoV management customization advantages.

I like relatively low FOV, it looks better, not being able to look all around you gives more suspense and promotes more tactical gameplay (if you can only look in a small angle, you better make sure you look the right way).

High FOV is for bunny-hopping frag monkeys.

Seriously, take that back.

(BioSnark) #50

High fov is also for people who don’t like sickening, shakycam-like experiences.

@ed lolington: I don’t ever downrep a post because I disagree with it. maybe that isn’t saying much if I don’t downrep, period

(Mustang) #51

I actually hope they changed it to vfov
Widescreens are pretty much the norm now

Been out lately (beach, boating, scrubbed Shuttle launch, etc.) but isn’t this basically the exact same argument used by the guy that worked three years to master the console controller, after being literally the best mouser in the world??

(tokamak) #53

That would be really weird if it was the exact same argument.

(riptide) #54

Well you are creating an artificial and unnecessary limit to increase difficulty. So it’s quite similar in that regard.

(tokamak) #55

Controllers don’t have tactical implementations, but a low FoV has. I also don’t think it’s that artificial, it’s pretty natural to have a low effective FoV.

(riptide) #56

So you having less information to process while having to move your mouse less (to hit what you see)and having larger targets is better than a larger view with smaller objects? Btw I can’t argue an “effective FoV” usefulness because to me that’s 90-130.

Here are my quake FoV’s 115 and my zoom is 60… Sometimes I do hold zoom for a while… but to have a low FoV limits your movement because you aren’t aware of what’s around you. It also puts you at a disadvantage when you are in CQC because your screen will be cluttered with information such as explosions and muzzle flash.

(BioSnark) #57

I would think increasing reaction/retaliation time would have tactical implications similar to reducing field of view.

(tokamak) #58

Nobody is put at a disadvantage by a FoV limit. All the while it does allow players to sneak up on people if they’re too focused on something else.

(BioSnark) #59

doesn’t that mean they are put at a disadvantage?

(Mustang) #60

I assume he means that because a limit puts everyone on a level playingfield no-one is any more disadvantage than anyone else
