FOV on the PC

(Diablo85) #1

I know this has been asked before, but it has never been answered. So I figured I’d try it again since the release is so close now.

WIll it be possible to change the FOV on the PC? Or will the FOV be on a PC standard from the start? Many games these days have console FOV which gives me motion sickness. So it is important for me to know this before release.

Can’t get motion sickness when you’re not moving.

(Diablo85) #3

So how do you suggest me to play the game when I can’t move in it?

it should be the same FOV… you just have to mess with it to remove the fish eye based on ur resolution

put your desk + chair on a boat and go out to sea then the motion sickness from being at sea will make whatever fake affliction you’ve devised seem miniscule in comparison

(Diablo85) #6

Do some more research on motion sickness and go troll somewhere else while your at it.

Try playing whatever games you play currently that have adjustable FOV with the field slightly lower than you normally do. A small difference won’t cripple your experience. Once you get acclimated to the setting change it again. Keep going lower until you get to the level where you previously couldn’t play. Then if Brink turns out to not have an adjustable FOV you’ll be able to deal with it better.

(Diablo85) #8

Will do that if BRINK turns out to not have adjustable FOV. Going to be a huge change though since I always play at 90 - 110 FOV while console FOV is around 60ish.

(ed lolington) #9

I doubt you’ll be able to change FOV on consoles because lol. As for PC it could go either way but we’re gonna have to wait until the 10th to find out :frowning:

(mestido) #10

BRINK have developer console on the pc?

(Crytiqal) #11

Ofcourse it does

(Mustkunstn1k) #12

While it would be something that is a must, then I have seen no confirmation.

(DubPlate) #13

Would really like confirmation on this. Surely 90 is the minimum on PC.

(master[mind]) #14

I use an FOV of 120-122 for 2 specific reasons:

  1. I can see more.
  2. Movement feels more accelerated.

I have used lower FOV’s, but having such restricted vision sucks, and that just with an FOV of 90. I spent days moving my FOV from 70-130 in a game till I settled on 122. It felt like the perfect balance of image stretch and increased peripheral vision.

(DarkangelUK) #15

This has always been my argument for why people think Brink is slow… because they’re used to the feeling of speed with increased FOV.

(ed lolington) #16

increasing your fov to get more acceleration is the equivalent to busting out the windscreen in your car to get more acceleration. it’s not going to make you accelerate more quickly but it will sure as hell feel like it does.

for some people the feeling is everything. the rest of us use condoms.

it’ll probably be one of those settings that users won’t be able to touch in Brink, because let’s face it: most people won’t know how to set it properly. Having a view frustum the size of a barn door isn’t always the greatest thing in the world when it comes to performance and there definitely is a limit to “how big” your field of view really should be.

(SockDog) #17

It worked in Borderlands (until you zoomed).

Familiarity is certainly part of it but I’d also wonder if lower FOV “feels” wrong because your brain expects movement at a certain speed when you walk and run and low FOV conflicts with that expectation.

I’m sure we’ll be able to change the FOV in the game on the PC.

(Kendle) #18

Dunno why but I’m assuming FOV will be adjustable up to 120 or so (it was in ET:QW iirc). Anyway, I played COD:BO for 3 months and just couldn’t get used to FOV = 80 max, it felt like I had blinkers on restricting my vision and it just felt so damn slow … I’m assuming Brink will allow me to use the FOV = 110 I’ve used since 2001 when I started playing RTCW and which I’ve used in every game (except COD) since.

Its really simple to implement, why should it not be there? And if not, it will make probably 90% of pc players rage…besides everyone has their own preferences, I like to play quake live with 120 fov not because I feel acceleration more, but because I can see more around me

360 fov ftw
