Hi all players and mappers,

The voting has now officially started. This thread is a place for your vote

Rules of voting:

  1. Votes are given in one post. one post per registered forum damage user.
    • There can be comments with your vote but please keep this thread as clean as possible.
  2. Anyone can vote.
  3. Mappers participated to combo cannot vote their own maps.
  4. Voting happens by giving maps name in 3 (three) categories
  • Best looking
  • Best playing
  • Most original idea

Chapel is just so beautiful and eerie and I had my best laughs and fun moments in Claustrophobia.
The orginal was kind of hard. but Bazaar you must first use dyno and then steal. Other maps
has only stealing or capturing. oh well chapel has the lit opening sequence. But the Bazaar
has the amazing skyportal.

Mindlink’s chapel came close second for best looking, but detoeni’s is overall a more consistent quality, whereas I felt mindlink’s map was mostly just the window sunbeams.
Playability I can’t judge properly, because I’ve not actually played objective mode with people properly yet, but I do appreciate his homage to MP castle which I used to love. I did have a lot of fun on ascent though, shooting straight up and down much of the time is a new one on me :slight_smile:
Chapel wins for originality because of the way you open the crypt - a fun new touch I thought.

best looking: bazaar by detoeni

photo-quality shadows, burning incense, incredible architecture. But it was the skybox that put me at the mercy of this map. incredible.

best playing: mml_claustrophobia by gerbil

multiple routes in 1024^3. 'nuff said.

most original: chapel by mindlink

not only is the crypt objective original, but the originality of the sunbeams make them the best I’ve seen.

Here are my reviews of the maps…

MML_Claustrophobia: G0_Gerbil’s aptly named map was in essence straightforward. The eye candy was good and it had nice architecture, and I especially like the broken wall. It almost won best playability but I decided thecave was more competitive.

Chapel: The excellent architecture, Christ statue, spider/cob webs and the sun beams immediately caught my attention and I pretty much decided that this would be the best looking map at first. But the playability wasn’t that good. However I did like the pushing open the coffin thing, that was cool. ^^ This definitely had the second most sexy graphics.

thecave: It wasn’t the prettiest map but damn was it good. It reminded me of a level in Super Mario 64 (yes, ancient). I loved the rising water and the little details here and there. It seems like a very competitive map as well as fun. However, a big problem was that the bridge was useless because the gap was easily jumpable.

Ascend: This map was very good. Unfortunately the graphics had a few problems, like sparklies above the arches. Also, you could see the bottom part of the skybox when you climbed all the way to the top or in spectator mode. However the shadows on this map were excellent!

Bazaar: The skybox had me going “holy fking s*”. That’s how awesome it was. Add to it the incense and flickering fires and there’s no contest as to the best looking map. The blowing-open-the-coffin part to get the… err thing… was cool too, and it seemed pretty competitive.

Garden of Kadesh: This map was pretty straightforward. It had good graphics and good playablility. However, it was a bit disappointing, especially cause the rocket didn’t do anything special.

ctf_bunker: Red*UK’s CTF style map was almost the best playable map. The electricity was very cool and a nice effect. However it would have been more playable if there was only a main gold crate to capture instead of capturing the enemies. It wasn’t very creative because IMO the whole bunker thing is overdone in ET. However I bet people playing on pub servers will love it… they’re always whining about CTF maps, or the lack thereof.

Best Looking: ml_chapel by MindLink
The Chapel map is just breathtakingly beautiful. also liked the way the altar opens when u stand beside it. The light shining in from the windows are very nice.

Best Playing: ctf_bunker by Red*Uk
For such a small map i think ctf_bunker will play best…the fact that its a mirrored map makes it very balanced.

Most Original: thecave by seven_dc
The idea of flooding the cave is nice.

MML_Claustrophobia: No annoying hiddens walls mean you can jump everywhere, and the map has lots of routes. I’ll most likely be putting this map up on a server sometime.
Chapel: Very good looking… but the map layout is missing options for paths for players to take :|.
thecave: Very secksy. Good looking and VERY original - I’m pretty impressed with this map. NFI how well it’ll play - the generator rebuild seems surprisingly close to the axis spawn, and with allies swimming around in the water I’d be surprised if allies ever win this map :(. But still, very very cool. I’d be keen to use this on a server… but only if the defensive hold on the generator wasn’t too strong.
Ascend: Didn’t really impress me. Felt like a map that had been crushed in to fit - getting out with the objective is too easy - you can fall down 2 or 3 times and in 5 sec’s or so be down at the bottom again.
Bazaar: I’ve gotta agree with TFate - your skybox is WIN. And the map looks like it should be tons of fun for dueling too. Again a lack of alternate paths means it’s unlikely to play well with much more than 1v1, but I might still wind up offering it.
Garden of Kadesh: A very simple map, but still pretty cool. Not really sure if this is a useable map.
ctf_bunker: A well done silly-ctf style map. Symmetrical, which makes working out the gameplay easy - but still very cool, this map actually doesn’t feel cramped - an impressive achievement. Another map I’ll probably be using soon.

I really like the upper courtyard in the Garden of Kadesh…
something about the texturing of the arches and pillars appeals
to me. Bazaar’s waving palm trees outside were pretty cool too.
However, Chapel, with its color-stained sunbeams, crypts in the
floor, beautiful artwork at the pulpit and spiderwebs was “prettier”
IMO.

Honorable mention for Special Effects to CTF Bunker… the
Lightning Lift is beautiful.

All of them were really nice. Looking forward to the final
versions.
