Before I rant in rage here, what exactly is force team balance supposed to do? I thought it put equal human players on each team, so one team didn’t have 4 humans and another had one. But if thats the case, why did I just start a with a 1v1, and it ended up being an 8 vs 2? With me on the side with the one other dude?
Force team balance.
Had the same thing happen last night, except it was 6 vs 2, I have yet to see even 8 players on one team on xbox since release, I’m lucky to get a 4v4 (where is everyone). And in competition had a 4v2 which is nearly impossible to win without balanced teams because bots do not fill the holes.
In my experience its people just hopping over to whatever side has more humans in order to stack against the losing team. Coming from the PS3 tho
i’m a PC brink player and have only been playing for about a week now, and i can say that the majority of people i play with love to stack teams. it just really baffles me why they are so scared of losing when this truly is a game where stats shouldn’t matter. it really doesn’t matter how many times you die or lose, so why not try to make it an epic, evenly matched, fun game and join the side that needs help?
i totally agree that some sort of auto-balancing feature needs to be turned on by default in average public servers. if someone wants to set up a more serious server and turn off the option for more competitive play, fine. but, the average server for the average player should have it on, no question about it.
also, you should just make it so that people can’t join the side with more human players on it. how simple is that? and to add, take off that damn “can’t switch sides yet” restriction at the beginning of matches if you’re trying to join the side with less people! shouldn’t these things be in for a game touting “team oriented”, or am i crazy?
I don’t believe people stack teams on purpose. From my experience, you will be placed on the team of which side you selected during the character creation. So if you chose a security character during the character creation, it will automatically always try and put you on the security team, and if you chose resistance, you will be placed on resistance side. Regardless if the teams are 6v1, it seems to ignore that and places you with your preferred characters side. There are tons of team balance threads here and on the steam forums, yet still nothing is done about it.

Just a few. You figure they would get a hint, eh?
Only positive change I see towards Team Balance is the Clan Party System integrated into Brink or a Vote to Balance team, which can and will be ignored, but is one step towards a compromise. Any forced Team balancing is gonna result in matches not getting played to completion because friends want to play with friends that’s very fun. You can’t force parties or fireteams to split up. Best thing to do is make friends, join clans, join forums, build up like-minded dudes to play with. Otherwise, its gonna be tough sledding if you run into a group like RIF or any other group that plays together often for fun.
I’m sorry, but that is ridiculous. You think people would leave early if the teams would be made fair? It’s the other way around! I leave when the teams are stacked, not when they are even and balanced. The word is balance after all. The public games shouldn’t have to suffer because you want to team up with your buddies. If you want to play with your friends, wait for a slot to stack to one team, or get your own servers. Don’t be scared of a little competition.
Not scared of a little competition at all specifically. But, I was speaking in terms of the bigger picture; not everyone who plays together with a group of friends is gonna want to get split up and switched to the other team. This is a Team Based shooter, and the ultimate reflection of that is gonna be a team of friends playing together to achieve the goal of winning. What do you expect? Like I said before, the only way to do it is as a vote, but the vote can and will be ignored at times. But, if teams want to split up they will. And, players can swap teams regardless. So if it auto balanced teams, players can just jump back to play with their buds. Surely you can understand my reasoning? I enjoy playing with my friends much more than random people too.
Plus, I am not sure auto balance can be implemented fairly when its class based. A good medic is naturally gonna get a lot more experience than say a really good Operative, but how would you auto balance the teams with that in mind? Just automatically make the teams 6v6 if it was 8v4? Now one team has no medics potentially? Or the Class Specific characters?
Small Teams playlist is the place for peeps who get frustrated with one-sided matches.

I understand it’s more fun to play with your friends, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of the fun of the rest of the players. I’m all for wanting you to be able to play with your friends, but when it’s 8v2 something is wrong and balancing is needed regardless of who is friends and who isn’t.
I know Team Fortress 2 has a plugin where you can buddy up with a friend by typing something like !buddy wolf, this would make you and a friend immune to the auto balance or team balance. Maybe something similar should be implemented with a max buddy count. TF2 also scrambles based solely on the players score and it works quite well most of the time. I would suggest something similar, but also account real players and bots since that is an added equation. There should be an even number of bots and humans per team, none of these 8v2 games.
Here’s a topic discussing that already. http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30369
My take on it is if you’re not on a FIRETEAM and then yeah a autobalance feature should be place for those not part of a fireteam to keep teams even during rounds…

Most savvy players would just make sure they join a Fireteam in fear of getting split up. Right? End of balance success rate. Failure to launch balancing.
Force your own team balance! Be that guy! Always join the team with the fewest humans! I tried to do it. Fail. Have fun getting pwned. There are Random players who will not advance and stand next to each other sniping across on CC where the crane drops the Bot! I kid you not, I was in a match with randoms yesterday where this happened! Right outside the doorway exit of spawn! The whole rest of the match they never pushed forward. The bot just sat there! (I had my mic on and they did not).
And you want me to be forced to play on their team? Are you serious? I was trying to stab them with my bayonet. Like, hey, lets go move the Bot! Nope. They just kept respawning and repeating the same tactic. Ha ha! Almost as bad as the Medics who fight over your downed body until they get downed next to you and don’t give out revives!
Worst line you never want to hear in Brink: “Sorry. Can’t make it!”

Sorry most players in Brink are not savvy…
How does that work exactly? I started with tf2 and found the balancing quite decent compared to the issues on most brink games.
I believe that when the teams are imbalanced in terms of player number, it simply moves a player from the stacked side to the other team when they die.

It switches you completely out of the blue, you’re doing great on BLU team, RED is loosing terribly, you die. YOU ARE NOW ON RED, HAVE FUN LOOSING WITH YOUR TERRIBLE TEAMMATES.

I totally understand how the team stacking is happening at the beginning of the match. But, I don’t understand why people won’t try to even them after figuring it out. If someone hasn’t figured out that players without a ping are bots, then I really wish them luck with their lives as they will need it. Haha. I don’t think that’s the issue though. I just think people want to stick with the winning team and are “afraid” to give themselves a challenge within the game.
I guarantee that almost HALF of those people leave the game if the teams somehow get evened out and god forbid if their team starts losing. Plenty of times, i’ve played on the team that is getting raped by 5-8 players. Then, the team gets evened out miraculously by a surge of new players and we start winning. Before the match ends, HALF of the people on the other side leave. If they aren’t on a stacked team and winning, they quit.
These are the moments that make you realize why at the point in time, it’s REALLY hard to make Brink shine to people who are trying it out for the first time. I’ve been playing ever since the free weekend, and luckily, there were a lot more people on, and almost every game i joined was full and evenly matched. But, can you imagine buying the game today and trying it out for the first time? Good luck reeling that guy onto the Brink love train.

oh yes, there will be plenty of awesome team skills showcased when the other side is getting steam rolled. end sarcasm.
i think in certain situations like 2 v 6 situations, it’s ok to split up and balance the game out. if the teams somehow get semi-even, then sure, switch over to play with your friend again. but, thinking like this only helps to kill the game when the “big picture” goal should be trying to get everyone to love it as much as possible. we want this game to grow and thrive so we can continue to get updates, fixes, new players, more servers. like i said, imagine being a new player and seeing the horrible stacked teams in every game you join. bad taste in mouth anyone?
