I have a feeling that Nexon are clamping the development tbh, SD wont admit it if that was even the case but going on the what they achieved in the first few months to what they have managed to do in the last few shows that content production as almost hit a stand still.
Absolutely not.
We give Splash Damage extra resources (such as QA testing), producers for ideas, and a whole team dedicated to events. We try not to propose anything that is going to impact development time from actual features, such as casual matchmaking. Why wouldn’t want the game to be awesome and successful? We are just as in it as they are. We are collaborators, not dictators. We run everything by them first as well to make sure we both agree.

Shoe actually wrote that messaging himself, and posted it. Everything that he wrote in it was true. We gathered enough data to try and fix the issues that were present in today’s test. How is this off putting messaging?

We are completely different teams that work on Lawbreakers and Dirty Bomb, just like the Dirty Bomb and Ghost in the Shell: First Assault Stand Alone Complex (phew I need to take a breath now) teams are different. So any project that Nexon is working on besides Dirty Bomb will not impact Dirty Bomb.

We do collaborate together for ideas, but we all respect each other and help each other out, and don’t overpower each other at all. We try our best not to step on each other’s toes.

I hope this clears some things up!
@RazielWarmonic thank you for this post as you have given me an “official bitchslap” to my mate who plays DB as well. Incidentally, since this is Nexon’s forum, do devs from SD look here as well?

(Jostabeere) #22

No.

Now I know a lot of people are going to ask about Cliff’s points in the video. I am not commenting on that at this moment due to several reasons, but will in the future. EDIT: This sounds really bad, but it’s not. I promise, lol!

I hope this clears some things up!
I do like the honesty and the fact you came and personally addressed my views/issues. I can respect that but most the community feel the way Cliff does and myself for that matter. Words can do little and I do love dirty bomb a great deal and SD for what they achieved when this game was released for open beta, I literally left all other fps games for this and invested more money than id care to admit. I wont take your word for it however, Ill follow dirty bomb from a distance again for a while and see what changes but its hard not to feel like everything Cliff says is wrong when so many share the same opinions.

So sad to see many players going their own ways, to different multiplayer games.

Unfortunately it has finally struck me. Like it or not I’m gonna have to please myself with TF2, since there’s no other online shooters than DB I can tolerate :frowning:

But for now, I wish DB good luck in trying to get some population and enough content. Adios DB!

EDIT:
Well I be danged, DB spoiled me so much, TF2 seems way too slow. Guess it’s Lawbreakers for me then…

So let me understand.
You came to this thread which is here for you to watch a video that explains how currently the development of DB is kind of bad and what you do is completely ignore the video, and leaving us with your infamous “Soon™”. Well, first, if you didn’t understood, FUCK SOON. Soon this game will just crash into the clusterfuck of development it is in right now. What is that Soon gonna help when we need answers now. Soon in this game means basically “Perhaps another year if everything goes by plan” which let’s not forget a lot of things don’t go by plan. “Code of secrecy” will only hurt the game instead of helping it, right now we don’t need to be hyped as much as we are cause as I already said this game is a fucking beta and hiding everything from us in beta phase will only hurt it.
Second, addressing the points the man has made in the video probably aren’t even covered by the “top classified” file, such as how many players come to the game and how much stay, eventually everyone who bothers played this game and majority deleted it leaving us on the decline of player base with only veterens fighting veterens which sounds good but considering that in that point we will probably have less than a 1000 players at peak times it really isn’t.

And I really want to see what @stayfreshshoe has to say about this, one community manager won’t help especially if it is the publisher’s one cause as you said

We try not to propose anything that is going to impact development time from actual features

(Mrarauzz) #27

I agree with cliff. I wish the best for DB but with year of playing this game you just get the impression they don’t want the best for the game. I have seen alpha tester friends who bought into the game quit with a huge sour taste in their mouth and my open beta buddies I used to play with refuse to play the game. I hope people can play with their friends soon or that community servers they announced actually come quickly…but being with this game for a year I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just some announcement to get us hyped for the 3 month soon™ wait for actual implementation, which will be buggy as hell.

Some things can be answered a lot faster than others, I didn’t have enough time last time to address Cliff’s video, but enough time to quickly address @Mister__Wiggles’ points.

I fully knew that me saying that would probably upset at least someone, but what am I going to do - if I didn’t address it, someone was going to ask.

We are honestly talking to Cliff about his video (hopefully) tonight to try and answer some of his questions and address some of his concerns.

We are definitely NOT ignoring his video whatsoever.

(Chris Mullins) #29

I spent a lot time watching, re-watching, making notes, watching again and then replying with a fairly lengthy comment addressing a number of issues Cliff raised in his video. I’ll copy and paste that below.

Looking through comments in this thread it’s clear that a lot of you share similar concerns to what Cliff raised in his video and each and very comment deserves our time and consideration. The truth of the matter is that no decision is a straight cut yes or no. Sharing the roadmap, upcoming events, updates on development, update contents etc… All of this communication needs to be locked down and 100% solid before we share and the timing also needs to be right. And that is if it’s a feature we can share as there may be a number of other potential factors. One of those factors is if any of that info changes after it’s been communicated it becomes a right kerfuffle.

Please rest assured that we have heard your concerns and will do our best to work towards improving communication and an overall improved process which will benefit everyone. We’re all together in this Dirty Bomb boat. And I think we all agree we want to make it to America and not hit an iceberg on the way (#therewasroomonthedoorfortwo)

And now, the lengthy reply which was on Cliff’s video:

Oh no. Cliff is at it again D:

In all seriousness though thank you for putting this together and highlighting what concerns you with the game and development. You make some good points of which I have noted and will be discussing them with the dev team. There are a couple of things which I would like to cover here, though I would be happy to discuss things further directly if you want to hit me up on Discord, unless you still don’t want to be my friend :’( (Although we could have a no friendship agreement if you’d prefer?)

When you showed the table at ‘03:35’ you said that decline is impossible to hide at this point, but those recent figures show growth. Granted, May’s figures are down on April’s however between January and April the numbers are generally going up. It’s very common for games to have a decline in users after launch and the fact that we have been on the most part growing throughout 2016 is very good.

As for the diversity discussions, the timing of that couldn’t have been better hah. We aren’t going around shouting about it, but when the BBC approach you you’re not going to say no. In fact they said this about the game which sums things up quite nicely: “It’s a game that has been quietly complimented on its portrayal of women”.

With marketing for the game, we can and have confirmed it will receive bigger pushes to reach a larger audience (recently we’ve been having a few Steam features), but there are certain features we want to have implemented before that time with Casual Matchmaking being one of them. There are some other cool things on the horizon which we, unfortunately, cannot give you details on just yet as they are all apart of a plan. But trust us, they’re cool!

And lastly the dev blog is a lovely place which was created after it was made clear the community had concerns about transparency. We want players to know what they can expect and to be excited about what’s coming up. It’s not a place however where every bit of information is available for these features as they are often early in development and we don’t want to make statements about them when they could change.

I hope this helps to clear up a few things, and if there is anything else you’d like to go into more detail on please just let me know and I’ll be happy to discuss!

Thanks again,
shoe.

p.s. we love you guys

(_retired_) #30

Video and this thread summarizes perfectly my thoughts about the game which are shown by my username also.

It’s far cry from the game what was once promised and whenever I returned to the game there was always yet another issue. There are things and bugs that bug you the hell out of you like double deployables and aura station glare. It’s obvious weapons example like shotguns/bursts require rework this to be taken seriously as high ttk shooter. I think people who disagree about these should be consider their priorities about the game since “it doesn’t bother me and shouldn’t bother you either if you do X” = X being specific tactic/action towards these.

I understand the tough spot community managers and alike are in the situation but as you can see the restlessness of probably the most LOYAL fans (this doesn’t include me since I*m just opportunistic pig, lol) isn’t only growing but has already surpassed it’s most notable peak. The last few events and patches haven’t been only disappointing but stalemates in terms of development. People need more to keep interest. People aren’t natives that are bought with cheap trinkets and “promises of God”. These people can see right through it and will riot. WAKE UP.

I have never been part of any beta game crowd so that’s why I don’t have the qualities to see this marathon through but I can see that many other people don’t have that either. That should be huge warning sign to developers.

Personally my patience grew so thin that starting the game already send shivers down the spine and very simple annoyances lead to fuming and breaking point. Simply said with the core idea of the game being good and design cool it still wasn’t fun any more to play. It was either too easy or simply frustrating while I seek something that is challenging and exciting.

At best this is just “Sunday Shooter” for weekend warriors. Basically not tactical, clever or skillfull fps but more like shoot’em’n’blow’em’up. Nothing wrong with that but it won’t keep people like me entertained longer than this.

I seriously doubt but still hope that you make it.

(B_Montiel) #32

Be assured of one thing : with Casual Matchmaking, you’re a making a bet. A tremendous bet. Being for or against it, everyone has its opinion. Personally I think you’re just starting the effort and it will be a long route. Nevertheless, considering that everything that was already similar in the current situation (scramble and ranked mm) does not work as intended at the start or even totally disabled, considering the effort much bigger studios put in building an efficient tool in the past (volvo for dota2/cs:go, and to be mentioned League of Legend where it took them at least 2 years to have a mm without bugs), considering that it is a very binary system (it works well or it’s shit, quite literally) and considering that it targets a very complicated audience (casual/non-comp oriented players), you’re taking immense risks with this. Because you may disappoint many players while having bored to death the other half during its development. No matter the side I try to apprehend this project, I still don’t see the potentially beneficial output.

All this, for something which is not content per say. And that’s the only thing both SD and Nexon have to tell us. So I guess you’ll understand our reasons to be worried. So please, give us an insight on what is coming up next. I mean, real content, something we can touch when we have joined a server, when we play.

(K1X455) #33

Further to shoe’s post, in case any of you were not here last around th closing weeks of June 2015, DB got infested with “paying cheaters” which distracted the development because of the public outcry to implement a cheat detection system. So if any of you tried at least to correlate population declining events to that, you should be enlightened. I’d rather play in a game well played by the opposing team rather than have one player ruin the game experience for all. Besides, a steady growth of clean and healthy competitive players is better than being notoriously infamous for being a trap for uninitiated.
We aren’t going around shouting about it, but when the BBC approach you you’re not going to say no. In fact they said this about the game which sums things up quite nicely: “It’s a game that has been quietly complimented on its portrayal of women”.
Like I said on CT’s YT video, it’s been like that since the start of the open beta? Why would CT bat for BBC’s compliment of the game for a fair portrayal of women? Because OW had started a surefire recipe to get publicity? Isn’t there enough reality TV shows that are broadcasted that do a lot worse? Seriously, CT’s video lost its sense there for me which caused me to change my opinion of it from neutral to negative.

@Shoe, I appreciate your team effort to listen to the playing community, but please don’t do a knee jerk reaction because public opinion becomes more valuable than sound judgment (Remember Blizzard: JeffK on Tracer’s Over the Shoulder pose). Perhaps a better way of explaining the what and why of decisions are possible solutions to transparency demands.

Keep up the good work!

(K1X455) #37

Well, someone please fix my equation:

#MakeDBGreatAgain = DB >> OW > TF2

(Tanker_Ray) #38

@sympatheticMotorcycle Thanks for mentioning me MilkyBear.

I’ve seen Cliff’s vid while ago, but I’ll finally leave my opinions here.

But first of all, please consider that I am one of the very few Asia server DB veteran(Currently level 101, killed quite a lot of 110k people.), and Asia server has very narrow space for players that are ready to play DB.

so let’s arrange the vid’s topic in to orders.

1.) Decreasing Population?

I’ve never been to other servers besides ASIA, may be sometimes US WEST since I can barely play there with 180+ ping.

So I really have no idea what to say about EU/America servers which will take majority of DB’s population.

As a few 100+ level player in Asia, it is also true that Overwatch and lacking Ranked system made lots of pro Japanese players and Taiwan players abandon DB and head to CS:GO.

But first thing first, DB has never advertised to Asia region is the first reason why Asian players FEELS like DB is dying, and feeling otherwise, Asia server is actually always full at peak hours = weekends. Stopwatch/Objectives are all full as hell that the server space isn’t enough for Asian players who are waiting!

So I can clearly say, there are quite many prepared DB player size that are larger than the server size at least in Asia. Considering SD, you guys NEVER advertised this game to our region.

Besides the server number expansion, SD really had to advertise this game and gather lots of Asia region FPS players that can be potential DB players like me. I am KR DB community manager/KR DB wiki contributor, advertising DB and writing wikis by myself for newbies, and KR players are actually increasing day by day.

Besides the other game or lacking PvP competetive games, I think major downfall of DB’s population is mainly because of slow development speed.

Me my self and other DB players are still waiting for new shxts to come up, such as simple balance change like Phantom and Thunder. EVEN STILL.

I also participated Dockyard/Gallery alpha test, and those aren’t even in DB for over 6 months. People still hate Dome because of its first impression.

Other than this, those god damn bastxrds still shouting out ‘DB is fxcking P2W!!’ messed up the whole DB’s reputation from the start.

2.) Cases?

Expert cases’ price is enough as it is just like Cliff mentioned. But Elite Cases? NO. Still hella expensive.

3.) Slow Development? Transparency?

This is related to Low Population topic.

Let’s be honest. SD, you guys are SO DAMN SLUGGISH about the update.

Personally, I don’t really care about new mercs since I’ve got my THUNDA, and new guys or girls are hard to balance = which means they can influence balance a lot just by releasing them.

But even passing over new maps, proper MM, new weapons, I can’t freakin understand why you guys take so much time just to fix the primary weapon balance. Just this one.

It’s been a damn while since burst rifles are giving us over advantage after CW update’s RoF bug fix. It has been SEVERAL MONTH. How long do you guys need to collect infos or statistics about weapons??? HOW LONG??

But please, one thing, never update the thing in urgent state. As much as I want update transparency like this year Feb’s Fine tuning that revealed Weapon Efficiency Chart, or so called statistics, I want that in July Fine Tuning to see how much the update is reasonable. For instance, just like the proper nerf that Stark AR got.

Just never do things like Silent nerf that Looter augment took before at some point of time. DON’T DO THIS. PLEASE.
Only part I agree about Cliff is this Looter silent nerf. Most of the updates were very transparent eventhough it was super slow, except Looter’s tiny ammo pack gives you only half round down mag which was utterly drivel.

4.) Marketing?

I don’t think SD hasn’t pick the wrong Youtubers. At least their viewers might include FPS players right?

Other than this, I agree with Cliff.

But in Anyways,

I really want to tell you guys one thing. @RazielWarmonic @stayfreshshoe or other SD devs.

Those salty/sarcastic players aren’t REALLY hating DB. Me, and they are mad because we love this game so much. I’m also in the same boat just like Shoe said, and we all know DB deserves much more fame than this.

Please realize this, because DB has the best potential of all time among all FPS I’ve ever seen.

Conclusion of this?

UPDATE FAST. ADVERTISE MORE. DON’T DO STUPID EVENTS.

We are disappointed because we still think this game have some hope to change, because we expect things might change since we know some of you are listening to us. (Let’s not talk about how many fxcking times I ranted about Thunder almost over 8 monthes. His conc is still broken but still HP and MK.46 spread buff came at last, right?)

IT’S ALL UP TO YOU, SD.

As I decided to stay with DB forever, please. Show us something before it’s too late.

Cliff’s vid is just one of the players’ warning sequence.

I will still wait for proper Ranked Match stimulation, July Fine-Tuning’s primary weapon balance, Dockyard/Gallery, and Turtle.

I’m just one South Korean player who plays this game at the opposite side of this planet who’s still expect DB will enhance. Please keep this in your mind.

If you guys hesitate, there won’t be a next chance for DB to rise.

(AlphaUT) #39

SD should just focus on improving the game, and yes they are doing it. However it is also a big NO since they are trying to bring up many events which is the last thing they should ever do in a BETA game.

Not to mention the fact that, there should be no competitive in a BETA game, which actually caused the SD WASTED TIME on it. open cup ? Proving ground ? These things are not priority, system and fixing the BUGs are.
